harness

can anyone recommend a good harness? the few i have used tend to matt my dogs hair. also, i am looking for a good long long lead but one wth a light clasp. the one i currently have is 20feet but the clasp is so big it's heavier than my dogs head! need something smaller. any suggestions?

Most harnesses will matt the hair (esp. if the hair is long). But i have 2 different ones. One i use for Dreamer is the standard kind. For Tripp i bought one that he just steps into & then you close it. That seems to work better only because its easier to get on. Of course Tripp is going thru the blowing coat stage & will matt just by looking at him.

I have the step in kind of harness for Havee. It almost looks like a bra and it clasps on his back. It's easy to put on and doesn't cause mats...not yet anyway.

I just bought the freedom harness as Dora absolutely hated her old harness. We had the issue with the clasp breaking and Dora going after the squirrel so I did some research. Dora actually likes this harness now. She hated the ones that pulled on her and you could tell she didn't enjoy the walks (the other little fluff ball pulls and goes crazy on walks where as Dora likes to stop and sniff the flowers).

It is pink and cute and most of all Dora is comfy! She is wearing in the picture but it is hard to see. It is like a strechy cloth and it kind of streches out the friction on the dog.

Here is a store but I am sure that there are others that sell it. I found it at posh pets near me.

Oh I don't leave it on her all the time just put it on for her daily walks! I wouldn't recommend leaving anything like that on all the time as your dog could always get caught somewhere jumping or something. My girls run around naked for hte most part!

I think she doesn't matt nearly as much from it as she does her collar. I think Dora's hair has gotten better about matting. She is now 2 1/2 and it is less matting in general!

I forgot to say as for the leash, I do usually use her flexi leash for long walks. However, I was able to find some leashes with smaller hooks at the dog stores too. I know Pet People carries some. I tend to use leather leashes just for training and www.jjdog.com carries a variety of ones depending on what you want. I prefer a very thin 6 foot lead.

Thanks! I knew you wouldnt leave it on all day. My dogs prefer to go naked to. Tripp hates the leash but is getting better. I walk them every day so he can get used to it. But i do want to start using a harness on walks.

I don't leave the harness on all day either. I do leave a light collar on with ID tags. He is microchiped just in case however.
