Obsessed with our gerbils

Lucy is totally fascinated and obsessed by the fact that we have two small rodents in the house. Yes, we have gerbils too (and did I mention my two fish tanks??). Anyway, this will be our first and last experience with owning gerbils but I think it's hilarious the way Lucy will whine and stand up trying to see them while I'm cooking dinner.

She stands and paws at the air and if we actually hold her up to see them - she's in heaven!!

Sandy

We had a big fat male hamster that Pixie was fascinated with also. He was the sweetest creature, and never once bit us and let her sniff him. She would even try to herd him down the hall. They're probably thinking "what the HECK is that thing"! Sadly, he's in hamster heaven now.
I hope your gerbils are nicer than the two we purchased for our daughter-they were very agressive and bit constantly, even though she was very gentle with them. Lucy is a very pretty girl-don't you love when they do that?!!

Beth, Pixie Puff and MiG too

Animals normally love each other and like to interact. When my children were home we had rats, cats, hamsters and guinea pigs. Never had one hurt the other. One of the hamsters got out and was gone for almost a week. The boxers started barking in the basement and low and behold there he was. To this day we do not know how he got from one level to the other, but the boxers didn’t hurt him. Now if he had been in the yard he may have been lunch.

Considering that Lucy once came inside with a dead squirrel in her mouth, I'm thinking that our gerbils would a light snack for her if she ever got close enough to them!! She's a hunter at heart. Whenever she's outside she seems to have a much keener sense of smell than our Chihuahua Paco.

The gerbils are now almost three years old, the kids really don't play with them much and I have to constantly remind them to clean up after them so I'm almost tempted to try to find them another home but I don't like the message that would send to the kids.

They are very sweet and don't bite but they're not super social with us. They don't have the personality that our first gerbils had. One was named Squeaks Vader and he would sit on your shoulder and take a nap. I miss that little guy!!

Tugger absolutely LOVED the rats my boys had as pets and the feeling was mutual. Tugger would put his head into their cage and they would run over and clean his whiskers and groom him. When they were out they would play all around him. Sometimes on top of him. Occasionally he would get carried away and try to roll on them but they never seemed to mind. He was their best friend and he missed them when they passed away. Now we have a bird but the connection is not the same. Birds think they are the kind of the world. Our parakeet marches across the floor (he can't fly) and Tugger tries to get it to play or even look at him by doing all kinds of crazy antics but it doesn't work. The bird doesn't even look at the dog. Tugger is heartbroken!

Oh same! We have two hamsters (Syrian, Russian Dwarf), and two fish tanks (29gal, and a 6gal?). They're at floor level so I should keep an eye on the puppy when I get it in May. lol.

I think it's adorable how they want to interact with one another; only they know what they're saying but watching from a distance, must be cute.

What an adorable picture! Lucy is such a pretty girl, and how funny that she's so fascinated with the gerbils. Our rabbit is in a cage on the ground, and Marble will pass by and take a peak, but he won't look long.

I like this thread. Keep it going with more stories of different pets interacting. I would love to read or see pictures!

Ah, starred in the same movie as our cat. She is known as "Obi-won-fuzz-nobi" (her real name is Snowbelle... I don't even remember how it degenerated into Obiwonfuzznobi!)
