Tomorrow is the day...

Nino goes in at 7 am to get his two retained canines pulled. After a last supper of some super yummy wet food, steamed veggies, and pureed berries, he is now being fasted. He hasn't been eating much recently and probably won't be eating much for a couple days. I feel bad for the little man. He's such a happy little guy no matter what, I really don't want to see him in pain or discomfort. Of course, he will be HEAVILY pampered once he gets home. I'm just hoping the whole endeavor isn't too traumatic for him.

I will keep you all posted

Sophie, Nino, and Brisket (Mario too!)

I think you'll find that he will be just fine. The people I know who have needed it done have said their pups were sleepy when they picked them up, they served only soft food for the first day, and by the next day, it was like nothing had happened. Remember, these are teeth that are meant to fall out on their own. Even the stubborn ones usually don't have deep roots. It's not like an adult human having a tooth pulled.

We dodged the bullet, though... Panda lost her last one after I set up the surgery the second time!

Molly had two baby canines pulled that were stubborn and later had to have two adult teeth pulled. She came through just fine, like nothing happened. Try not to worry.

Tucker had the two top pulled when he was neutered and microchipped. The bottoms had just fallen out about 2 days before his surgery. He didn't even notice they were gone and was eating normally the next day. Hope all goes well for you...

I left the clinic after a quick health check 5 and a half hours ago. I don't think I've been in the house without Nino around since we got him as I'm the one who brings him places...very odd feeling (I can actually clean without the wannabe herder nipping at my heels).

He got his pre-anesthetic about 3 hours ago, so I should be getting a call any minute. We had scheduled for just his two upper canines to be pulled, and they offered to just get rid of his loose molars as well at no added price. We were just going to let them come out on their own. Very nice of them. They have completely remodeled since we last had a dog there and it was BEAUTIFUL. Very impressed with everything about this place.

I'm definitely looking forward to having my happy boy back. Mario, on the other hand, thinks this is great (wait til he finds out he's coming back...heh). Thank you all for helping me mellow out I've got oodles of blankets and cuddly things waiting for him and a nice mixture of berry and veggie puree waiting to fancy up his food.

Edit: Got a call just after posting it. He's awake and doing well. I'm leaving in about 20 min to pick him up.

That is great. I asked our vet about the cost as well before we took Tucker in. He said they charge no more than $15 no matter how many they need to pull when they are under anesthesia. Made me smile.

After only an hour of sleepiness, Nino was back to his livewire self. His mouth doesn't seem to be bothering him at all (he didn't protest when I pried it open to retrieve contraband, he's playing with toys, and he snuck some of Mario's kibble). I don't think I've ever seen a dog bounce back from anesthesia so quickly. I don't know if this makes me a tiger mom, but I even brought him to our run through tonight. It was heavily modified (no bite check, very little examination, only short down and backs), and we only stayed for 25 min, but it made him so so happy. We were 1 of 3 dogs, so it was very low-key thank goodness.

The poor guy is wanting to run and play, but per vet's orders, we have to restrict intense activity until midday tomorrow. Wish me luck on that...Nino has 1 setting and it's GO.
