Big Eater

Hi all. Well I think I may have gotten a little Piglet instead of a Havanese....

Radar is a little hog when it comes to eating lately. I put the food down and he scarfs it down in abour twenty seconds flat. I tell ya I could get a stopwatch and I could time him it would probably really be that short....

Has anyone else had their Hav eat like this??? I think he's gonna be real big when he gets older but I don't think it'll be all body fat. I would guess that right now he's close to 5lbs and he's less than 16 weeks (just coming up to fifteen weeks on the 29th).

He weighed in at 4.4 lbs on June 11th when he had his last Vet Appointment. I think he's gonna gain some good weight. I want him to be a muscluar dog with a healthy CV System. I plan to take him to the beach, the park, all over the place. I want to get some rollerblades and would really like to get him as active as I can get him not only so he'll be pooped at the end of it all but just so he can live as long as possible.

I feel that our little Hav's should be as active as possible and this will make them easier going family companions since they can work out all their energy and then be mellow later in the day. I also feel like this will get them to have an easier night when it comes to sleeping. I sometimes think that Radar just sits there all night waiting for my Wife and I to get up....sitting there and waiting for us..... He's a real fireball when it comes to energy levels.

He's getting into RLH in the apartment. My Wife and I have turned it into a training excercise for him. She'll call him and he'll go to her and then I'll call him and he'll come to me. It's a great way to get him to learn his name and to come when we call him. He gets treats sometimes when we want to reinforce the behaviour. He does the slide on the kitchen floor as well, it's **** funny too.... He'll slide sideways towards her and then when he comes to me he'll slide right into me, no traction control yet...

Oh What Fun.....

Derek

Derek, all three of my guys are like that!! It is a 30 second feeding time! They each gobble up so fast, to to be able to check out each others bowls. Lily is the only one that seems to be slowing down a little - she takes a minute to eat! They have always been like that so I dont think anything is wrong with it.

Well that's good to know. I often think that he's trying to tell me something like he's ready for more food or he wants to up his feeding amount.

Sometimes our Hav's (the one's who own the forum members here) are smarter than we think and they seem to know what's even best for themselves sometimes and the are pulling the strings.....

Oh well I'm content with the way he's eating right now although I haven't got a bead on when he's supposed to be having bowel movements or how long it takes for him to have one after eating. Last night when My wife had Radar up when he was getting sick he went at 2 a.m. so it's all greek to me...

He will settle into a potty schedule soon. The only problem is that once you finally get it, and you are getting him out when you know he has to go, he will have a growth spurt, or a new stage & then it changes on you!!! My kids always say - you are not feeding them enough, they always want more food, but I am feeding a small amount MORE than the vet recommended so I agree that it might be "a trap"

Havee eats his meals too in seconds flat. I don't want him to be a fatty either. I He only gets 3/4c of food a day with a few treats here and there.

He was 5 1/2 lbs at 3 1/2 mos, and at 5 mos he's 8lb. So he's getting enough food! His parents were 9 and 11 lbs. I guess he's going to be bigger than them.

I just changed him over to Wellness...we'll see how it goes.
