Multiple Dogs

I am pleased with the way my 6 month old Lilly (Havanese) is getting along with my 4 yo Hannah (Sheep Dog) but I would be interested in any insight/stories anyone has regarding any special challenges multiple dog owners might face, like, toy/chewey stealing, chasing each other through the house, or anything else you might think of. Thanks.

I live with five dogs, and it is a joy. They all have their own personalities and enjoy having other dogs around. I only had a lab for 7 years and then got 4 havs and she couldn't of been happier. I think it is VERY important to train all the dogs big or little the same. Big or small they are still dogs. They MUST be trained manners, if you have as many as I do. However, when they all have manners, they are a delight to live with. Of course we have RLH's, but they will usually ring the bell to go outside to play hard, there is more room for them to run in the backyard and Axl(lab) is too big to be running in the house. After my experience with 5 dogs, I will never just own one dog again. They are really happier having other dogs around. I would love to see pictures of your two together.

Peace, Love & Havanese

I notice my Fred and Bella team up against Scuds. He's like a 3rd wheel. I also see a bit of jealousy over me, but I like them fighting over me

Your big dog is very beautiful and almost reminds me of a large neezer. They are very sweet together.

Thanks - I actually discovered the Havanese breed because I saw a picture of one that looked just like a mini version of Hannah. I started researching the breed and fell in love. Now I think of Hannah as a giant neezer.

YouTube- Havanese & South Russion Sheep Dog Playing
What a great video! Thanks for posting it! I've always been interested in the Ovcharka varieties. It seems your's is the South Russian version of a bearded collie!

Hannah does very well will your puppy! Did you get Hannah as a puppy also? How protective is she of your family and land? How wary is she of new people? Just curious...I've also read they have a more direct line to wolves than most other dogs, and therefor love to "mask and hunt" (so if they find something smelly they love to roll in it, although most dogs seem to love the stinky!). I've also read that Russians used to save the "wool" and knit things with it. I though Hav grooming was hard, probably nothiing compared to Hannah .

I wish I could get a/some companions for Sophie, but the DH won't let me. It would be my dream to add a Tibetan Terrier, PON, and a Beardie (or SR sheepdog!), get a place with more land and a fenced in big yard, oh...and have the money to hire a full time groomer for the clan!

Sophie does very well with other dogs at the dog park and is very good at reading other dogs' energy and behaves accordingly. On the leash and in the house she is a territorial barker, unless it is a neighborhood dog she has alread met. As for the other dogs and strangers that dare walk in front of our house...we are working on it.

Please post more vids and pics of your two!

Unconditional love!

Lilly I loved the video. Pixie has a step sister golden retriever. They are great together. At least 3 times a day Pixie gets a case of the zoomies and races around the dining room and living room. Katie tries but can't catch her. Out side is another story. Outside it's funny, right about the time Katie is going to catch Pixie, Pixie puts the brakes on and Katie flies right by, unable to stop. They also stalk each other to get the other to play. At nap time Pixie sleeps on Katie's tail or back. Katie is a good sport as she lets Pixie grap her chest hair, jump on her back , steal her food, and her toys.

I have 3 Havs and we started with one less than 2 years ago, they're a joy! (Well, when they aren't peeing or pooing in the house!) Now I can't imagine the house without the dogs in it.

They play, play fight, nap together, all sleep on our bed, and make us laugh countless times a day. Now that we have more than one I can't imagine having only one dog ever again.
