K9 Nosework

There isn't a header for Nose work in the competition area of the forum so I'll post here.

We're leaving in 10 minutes for Lola's intro to K9 Nosework class. I'm so looking forward to this as I wanted to train in it since I fist heard if it several years ago. So off we go. Will report back later.

Today I'd say Lola was born to do nosework. The instructor even commented on her drive. I know things can happen as training progresses but our first session was awesome.

I think housework would be a great fit for Mario. He's nervous around other dogs and there is little to no interaction in most housework classes, and he has excelled at hides we have done around the house (not with the oils, but oh well). Only problem is the closest training center that offers housework is 45 minutes away, which just isn't feasible most weeks.

Super glad Lola did well! Finding something your dog loves to do is such a win. Ours transform into stars when doing their thing, and it's so unbelievably rewarding.

I'm sure you'll love it!!! Sophie (Dee Dee's girl) does nose work regularly, and I've done a class with Pixel, though we haven't continued, just because I've been so busy with other things. But we had a great time doing it, and I'm sure we'll return to it at some point!

Our nosework class consists of a funny little clipped down poodley type girl with a pink dyed fluff of wild topknot whose only desire in life is to energetically socialize with everyone. Lola and an Aussiepoo are interested and focused on nosework. A shy, typically ball crazy rescue Malinois with mega esophagus makes up the beginner's group. There is also a medium sized mixed breed dog starting on odors.

We have a distance to travel for classes. 30 miles each way. However it's waaay closer than my Dobe's training field. I'd go 2-3 times per week and it was a 100 mile round trip!

Layla's mom...you'll love nosework!

Karen I thought of Dee Dee this morning when the instructor said Nosework was for all kinds of dogs. When she went through a litany of dogs and mentioned "blind", Dee Dee and Hallie came to mind.

I can imagine Mario would do well. And you're right....they do become super stars at home. It makes us so happy, they feed off of our delight and that's what makes our bond so special. ♡

I've got my boy signed up for his first nose work class starting August 9th. I think it will be a lot of fun.

You and Lola will love it. Sophie and I were supposed to have been at her first nosework trial this weekend but of course we couldn't go because she is so ill. I don't know if we will ever get to go back at it but I'd say it was proabably her favorite thing to do in life. Hallie's also. Most dogs really love it.
