Question Probiotic Diet

Hello friends. So I caught Sky eating her poop for the second time today To say i was shocked is an understatement. So i was searching the forum and came across many people suggesting a probiotic raw diet. Sky only eats dry food right now. So how do I give her a probiotic/raw diet. I am clueless as she is my first puppy. She is only 17 weeks

There are many commercial raw foods available, and I'd suggest one of those rather than trying to do it on your own... it is VERY easy to get the ratios off and cause nutritional imbalances with home made food if you don't know what you are doing. There are also commercial probiotics you can mix with the food. One good one is for humans, Jarrowdophilus, and can be purchased at Whole Foods, in a refrigerated section near their health food aisles.

The one I use is Dogzyme Digestive Enhancer. It's easier for me because it doesn't need to be kept refrigerated like the Jarrowdophilus:

That said, a lot of dogs eat their own poop, and it can be a tough thing to figure out why. The BEST way to solve the problem is to make it impossible for them to get to their poop, by taking them out to potty on leash, and pick it up as soon as it hits the ground. Even then, some are incorrigible. I'm SO happy that none of mine have done it!!!

Sophie was horrible eating her own poop from puppy on, I tried everything under the sun and then some of my own "MacGyver-ing"
Nothing worked until she got sick and then treated, now that she feels better for first time ever she's not eating poop!

Since hers was from a tummy issue I din't know she had, is probably why all my efforts didn't pay off. (she was on probioitic raw diet also which cleared up her stools but not her poop eating) But have heard good things from others using forbid, etc. Many say they grow out of it in time. One thing I did find helpful is to NOT make a fuss of any kind if you catch him eating poop. That will make his "prize" seem that more precious to him and he'll just eat it faster or take off with it!

Ha! That's how Kodi is with horse poop! In all other circumstances, he has quite a reliable "Leave it!" command. If there is horse poop involved, some how, his fuzzy little brain translates that into: EAT FASTER BEFORE SHE CAN GET TO ME!!!

Ha Kodi don't you know carnivore poop tastes better than vegetarian?

Funny because Sophie seems totally disgusted by any other poop but her own (except now her own doesn't interest her that much either)

Interesting. Kodi never EVER has shown any interest in eating dog poo... his or anyone else's. BUT... horse poo, cow poo, DEER poo, RABBIT poo, TURKEY poo... you name the poo, and if it's not dog, he'll eat it with gusto. But horse poo is his favorite!

(can you BELIEVE what people talk about on the forum?!?!)

Between owning two dogs and working in a nutrition-related setting, I find myself talking about dog poop way more than I would like to, and I'm far too comfortable doing so
