Rolling In The Grass

Emmie spends very little time on her back, but at the park she loves to find a "sweet' spot on the grass and roll around, and wiggle wiggle wiggle back and forth.

In the pics below, she's wearing a dark pink/magenta bow on top of her head, light pink collar, and she has white markings on her chin, chest/belly, and 2 back paws - if that helps you figure out what's what. LOL

Oh how cute! My Zoe LOVES to roll in the grass also! I cringe because goodness knows what gets in her coat. But they seem to really enjoy it.

When Chula rolls in the grass, it's usually because she's discovered a dead worm!

Ricky loves to roll in the grass too, most dogs do, regardless of the breed. I asked about this behavior to one of Ricky's trainers at his nosework class. I repeat what he told the class, I can't verify that it is true. He said that dogs roll in the grass when they discover the strong scent of a wild animal. He said it is instinctual. He said dogs and many other mammals will roll on the ground or grass to cover themselves with the scent of an animal they might be tracking as prey. Dogs want to disguise their "doggie scent" so they can sneak up on their prey with a scent similar to the prey. It makes the prey easier to catch. The explanation sounded logical to me. This behavior is harmless and fun to watch. So enjoy watching your dog take a roll in the clover.

Willow does the same thing! I saw her rolling on a certain spot and rubbing her face on it and looked closer and it was a dead worm! What is it with dean worms??!

I'm glad you told us where her white spots are as I sure can't tell which end is up!
