Rexy's 1st birthday
So our little Mystic Premiere Reach for the Sky aka Rexy will be 1 year old on Wednesday (a busy work day so I am posting today). Rexy is maturing into such a lovely little dog. He is smallish. Height 8.75 inches at the shoulder and weight 9.4 lbs. He was a very busy squirmy baby puppy and is still quite playful but definitely more settled. Not so much a lap sitter as one that likes to lay down close by. Rexy is quiet rarely barking or whining except when it's mealtime or when Mom gets home from work. He has been healthy though he does have mildly itchy ears. I am still playing around with food trying to determine what is causing his itches. It's not too bad but it would be nice to figure out what the source(s) is so I could avoid it. He has always eaten grain-free. I tried raw with him but after 2 months he refused to eat it anymore. Leo is thriving on it. I am doing a combination of canned and kibble now which he loves. Just trying to figure out which proteins cause the least itches.
Rexy handles baths and grooming without a fuss. He plays with toys by himself and with Leo. He and Leo usually have a hard play session in the morning, 30-45 minutes and again in the evening for 15-20 minutes. That seems to satisfy their need for exercise.
Rexy has only had one pee accident and 3 almost accidents that I caught in time to get him out. Two were right when he learned to lift his leg and thought to try it inside 2 days in a row. The one pee accident was on the rug at the back door at about 10 months when I was beginning to trust him more. I tighten back up on the freedom and slowly started giving him more. Yesterday we were in the front room and I was texting with my daughter and Rexy was chewing a bone. He hopped on the sofa and got in my lap to get my attention then headed to the door for a potty trip. I realized that that was the first time since he came to live with us that he wasn't in his expen and my attention wasn't fully on him. He came to me when he needed to go out. Yeah!
Rexy still gets a little drooly when in the car but hadn't thrown up in months. We'll head to the beach next month which is a 4 hour drive so it will be interesting to see how he handles it.
Temperamentally, Rexy is a tad more hesitant in new settings than Leo, who has never met a place, living creature, or activity he didn't love. But Rexy adjusts within a short time and is comfortable in new settings. He loves people. Big dogs are a tad scary, not too bad, but deserving of caution.
Rexy is a fun addition to our family. He and Leo are great buddies to each other and to DH and myself!
