Warning-Bags

I just read a sad email from my therapy dog group. One of our therapy dogs died from suffocation over the weekend. He got his head caught in a plastic bag (cape cod popcorn bag). His owner said she was eating it at her desk and put the bag in the little trash can under her desk and he got into it when she was gone.

This gave me chills not only from meeting this dog but this is something that could easily happen to a lot of dogs. Especially my Dash who is insane with chips.

Just wanted to share this as a warning to all.

Thanks, Amanda. I've come home more times than I care to remember with garbage on the floor because Bentley learned how to open the garbage can and remove stuff from it. I've found chip bags torn open and licked clean. Maybe this is a good reason to stop eating chips

Kim- I think there are many good reasons! I forwarded the email to my DH cause he is mainly the culprit there. They are one of Dasher's favorite things!

That's so sad, something I've never thought about before. I don't allow the kids to bring food out of the kitchen and now I'm going to tell them about this so they'll see there are dangers.

How sad, but thanks for posting, Amanda. These are everyday things we just don't think about. Like the time Shelby got her tail caught in the cord on my blinds. Now we make sure they are up and out of the way.

Amanda, thank you for posting this. Please tell your friend how very sorry we are for their loss.

Buddy's front end loader guy had a little dog that rode on the machine with him for 10 years, He found him in their hall with a cookie bag over his head. Very sad and it can happen so easily.

How sad! We don't eat right out of the bag but put chips and things in little bowls so the bag stays on the counter. My heart breaks for this family, though, because they will always feel so guilty. Please give them my condolences.

Oh Amanda that is aweful. Thank you for sharing this with us. Please let the owners know we are very sorry for there loss. My cousin came home and found his dog's head in a cereal box. It was very sad. A very sad lesson learned for all of us. We only put food trash in the big trash can....we dont even put wrappers or anything food related in any of the other trash cans. My heart just breaks for this family.
