Sam is 14
Sam is now almost 14!! And has now been in his forever home for over 4 years.
We got his diabetes under control, more or less, and through a lot of research by his vet we determined that he is gluten intolerant. How trendy! He visits his veterinarian acupuncturist every two weeks for his neurological and back problems, and I'm convinced that he wouldn't still be above ground without the acupuncture.
Despite all his "i$$ues", he's a very happy camper and a joy to have. He has a very accurate internal clock and keeps me and my golden right on schedule.

Sam is 10! (10-21-12)
I've been lurking since last spring, and am typing with one hand as Sam is asleep in my lap. According to the limited paperwork that Sam came with, sometime in this 2 week period is his 10th birthday. Sam came from Havanese Rescue in June, and his forever home is his third.
I've had goldens for the last 20 years, so am still adjusting to life with a small dog. Every day I'm seeing more interaction between Sam and my 4 year old golden, Harry. The other night they wrestled for at least 20 minutes, initiated by Sam trying to hump Harry. Needless to say the 60 pound difference doesn't phase Sam.
My vet is working VERY hard on one health concern - excessive water drinking, which of course means housebreaking challenges. He has been on a drug trial, and we're seeing improvement. We both think that part of it is behavior, in that he was probably confined in his previous life without access to water, and so he's conditioned to drink as much as he can when he can get it. Also, he probably had to relieve himself in his pen or whatever, so he doesn't have the experience to hold it or ask to go out. Oddly, but thankfully, he is dry all night.
I keep the apartment cool, so the first time I saw him shivering I thought he was having a seizure ;-) I turned to my hearty, weatherproofed golden and said "Toto, we're not in Kansas anymore. " I'm going to make him a sweater today. Today he's also getting his first bath. (Yes, it's been 4 months. I'm from the school of thought that says healthy dogs don't need baths,)
I don't seem to be able to upload pix-sorry!
