Panda and Chipper

We're having a quite Sun. morning. My son's Tree Walker Coonhound is here with us for the weekend, and he and Panda decided to share some "bonding time" over some antlers. Panda went and took them away from Kodi and Pixel (Chipper would NEVER do that!!!) piled them on Chipper's bed, and then the two of them lay down for a good long chew together!

BTW! The camera (phone) has foreshortened this photo so it doesn't show how huge Chipper is... he's well over 70 lbs!

For a soft place to lie down!

My son's ONLY complaint about the dog is that he has such a hard time getting him out of bed in the morning.

My son is an arborist, and wanted a "truck dog" who would be with him happily all day long. Chipper goes to job sites with Robbie, and in nice weather is tied to the truck while Robbie works. In bad weather, he has a sleeping bag he curls up in inside the truck. The two are inseparable. At home, Robbie actually bought a big (used) couch for him, so he doesn't have to sleep on the floor!

At "Grandma's house" (that would be me ) he has his own bed and toys. Panda actually bosses him around... a lot. Kodi pretty much ignores him, and Pixel is wary of him, even though he'd never THINK about hurting one of them. Here he is, on his way home from the self-dog-wash in the next town today... He doesn't QUITE fit in my sink, and it's kind of cold to wash him in the horse's wash rack now.

Robbie got him from Greyhound Rescue... imported from down south. He's probably a puppy mill dog, or at best, from a BYB. He had entropion and Heartworm, and was found under a porch in Tennessee. The rescue did the surgery on his eyes (which is why he has the scar tissue around them) and payed for his Heartworm treatment, even though he was living with Robbie already when they did the treatment.

My guess is that he was bred as a gun dog, and didn't pan out, so was dumped. He's afraid of loud, sharp noises like gunfire. (though, interestingly, he's fine with Robbie's chain saws and his HUGE chipper and dump truck)

The experience with the rescue wasn't altogether positive, but Robbie ended up with a companion that is perfect for him.

Chipper and Panda, what a cute (and unexpected) pair!! Love the pics and story of Chipper's rescue.

P.S. This is my 2,000th post. Thanks for your wisdom and support Karen!

Chipper weighs the same as our big guy, Porter, though I think Porter is some taller. Leo loves playing with Porter and Porter is really good about playing in ways that don't involve hard body contact like when he and Becca play. Rexy on the other hand really won't engage in play with our large dogs. Their size is just too intimidating.
