Today, November 2, is the Second Anniversary of the day Ricky came home to live with us. It has been two years filled with challenges, learning, successes, failures, but most of all, JOY. We are so in love with this dog, we cannot imagine living without him. As he gets older, it makes us younger. We have the best dog from the best breed in the world.
Over the last two years, Ricky has become more independent, sometimes a bit stubborn, less separation anxiety, more courageous, quicker to learn, easier to maintain, a little bit less "goofy", more dependable, and indispensable. But the thing that hasn't changed is that he is still as lovable and loved as he was two years ago.
Ricky is physically mature now and he is about 11" at the shoulder and weighs 15 pounds. He has always had a YUGE appetite. As a puppy, his fur was jet black and snow white. Today, he has some silvering in his black fur due to stray white hairs in the black. He is a bit calmer now, only being hyperactive a couple of times a day rather than every hour as a puppy. He loves "learning games" with intricate puzzles he like to solve. He appears to have heightened sense of smell, scenting in the air and tracking on the ground. He was the top of his class in his Nosework training competing with dogs that were better known as tracking breeds. One thing he hasn't mastered is catching toys and food out of the air. The item just hits him on the nose and he picks it up off the floor. He loves to play fetch but when he gets about 3 feet from us, he flicks his head and throws the toy at us! and his accuracy is quite good! When we fill his KONG with frozen food, he will throw his head back and throw the KONG on the floor with force to knock the last morsels of food out that he can't reach with his tongue! Remarkable!
Ricky is typical Havanese - affectionate, intelligent, energetic, and healthy. Whatabreed!
Te amamos Ricky Ricardo, tu eres querido nino.
