Doesn't look happy to me...If I saw this dog I would be heading in the opposite direction!

I think I could maybe judge it better at regular speed. Slow motion can distort how the dog is really acting. All we see is the teeth which could be deceiving. The rest of his body language didn't appear threatening.

At first glance to me he looks kind of excited ... tail wagging all over... but as I watched right around the 39-41 second point of the video(especially freezing on the 40 second mark), his tail is tucked, ears are back, body lowered so he looks to be stressed and in defensive mode.

Sooooo.....is this a happy dog??? It looks like a young dog. My husband seems to think it is happy because of the wagging tail. It's difficult to determine because there is no sound. The eyes look scary. I'm very cautious whenever I see a dog stare, growl or jump. This goes back to me being afraid of a friends dog who later attacked. I remember being scared to look at his eyes.

Ha! Ha!

Looks aggressive at first, but after watching the whole thing I think it's happy. Something about the eyes looks happy. Don't know for sure but I would be leary if I saw this dog coming at me like that!

yeah our training group was given this video without any context or info ,just the video. and asked to comment whether the dog was happy. We were later told Riot is a 2-3 year old JRT. He is a submissive grinner. The video was done just after he arrived at his nose work class. He is described as extremely sociable with people and dogs, and was very excited and trying to reach his instructor for a greeting. He “smiles” a lot and in a very exaggerated way, so his instructor wanted to capture an episode on video. He is described as being very intense and drivey, and his greetings are over the top, but he is friendly. This is a good example where the whole picture needs to be taken into account. and also where some things don't seem to mean what one thinks.
