Short coat and sun burn prevention!

Its been a challenge keeping Teddy's coat in as good a condition as all of your doggies.

I'm getting him a short haircut again. It was incredibly easy to brush and wash him after walks in the forest.

I've read many posts online about dogs getting sun burn from having their coats trimmed and being out in the sun for a while.

Does anyone know if 0.5-1 inch coat is sufficient to prevent sun burn during our out door adventures? if not, what would you recommend for preventing sun burn?

A lot of conditioning sprays that you may already use have an SPF factor to them. Mario has short hair, so he gets an all over misting for sunny days where he will be outside a lot. Nino is in full coat, so he gets it down his natural part. I believe CC Ice on Ice is one with SPF, and so is Espana Protein Conditioning Spray, which is what I use.

Sophie, Nino, and Brisket (Mario too!)

Thanks Karmar,
The most sophisticated dog product we get here are dog conditioner with tea tree or macadamia. Lol.

Never seen cc ice or Espana here...
If sunscreen is what he needs, I've seen sunscreen sprays here but only for humans...
Would it help him (and be safe) to use one for babies?

Our post office is rather unreliable so stuff frequently "disappear" in transit - making eBay less likely to be an option...

It's really important to have a conditioning spray, SPF or not. Havs should not be combed or brushed out without it. That could be why his coat quality is not where you want it to be.

Do NOT use human products on him, especially sunscreen. It would really muck his coat up and make things really difficult for you. The sprays are not a sunscreen, they just have a sun protection factor built into the condition of aspect.

I don't know what Kenya has as far as grooming product availability, but make sure you buy a quality conditioning spray, SPF or not, so that you aren't damaging his coat when you comb. If you haven't had a problem with sunburn yet, you should be fine.

Thank you so much for the tip!
He does have dry fur and have tried out all the available brands of dog shampoo but none have helped.
Never thought that he might need conditioner before being brushed.
Will try that out!

Will get him some conditioner aswell and try look for a leave in one to use for grooming.

Thanks again!!
