Loki had a temper tantrum

Today was neuter day. He did great until he woke up. The vet called me to say I could come get him as he was having a "temper tantrum." She gave him a mild sedative and sat with him until he calmed down. He was already trying to get to the stitches. I got him a Comfy Cone instead on the hard plastic one. So far so good. He is sleeping on the pillow beside my chair. He is whimpering a bit but can't have another pain killer until 8 p.m.

Aww, poor little guy, I'm guessing he pretty much hates the vet by now and had just had enough. I can't say as I blame him. I am so glad this is the last of it for him Barb, he has been through a lot. I'm sure you feel the same. I hope he feels better soon. Hershey was done last month and he bounced back really quickly from the neutering, he had issues with his IV site on his front leg. Good luck and hopefully it will be smooth sailing.

Poor Loki... it sounds more like an adverse reaction to the anesthesia than a "temper tantrum". Dogs don't really do that. Hope the poor guy is feeling better now that he's home.

How do you keep them quiet without crating him 24/7? Loki is running zoomies with a cone on his head. I guess the anti-inflammatories and pain killers are working. I hate to keep giving him mild sedatives. UGH!

You DO need to either crate him or keep him in an expel or tether him to you, at least for the first few days. He could bust open his stitches or cause a seroma with that much activity!

Good luck keeping Loki calm... glad he feels good enough for zoomies!
I haven't been through this yet so no advice ...I can imagine giving a nice new chew toy in the crate with some calming music streaming would help for a bit ... heal quickly Loki- you and your Mama have been through so much...

Poor Loki! I agree with Karen that the tantrum is a reaction to the anesthesia. I would try to keep him as quiet as possible for a few days. I had the same problem with Truffles. The crate and streaming music is a great idea! 😊 Feel better and heal quickly little guy! 😘
