disappointed to find out she isn't pregnant

The title says it all. I bred my eldest Havanese for the first time in December and just found out that it didn't take. I was SO excited. I've been doing tons of prep work, research, learning, and bought everything we would need. Her co-owner bred her and assured me that even though there wasn't a tie, she would be pregnant. Havanese (well Dogs in general) are super prolific.

We still don't know for sure what the problem was but I'm guessing that when there isn't a tie, the likelihood of fertilization must be less... right? Otherwise why would God build in the whole tie thing?

Sad Pam ( and the happy stampede)

I don't breed currently, but I personally wouldn't be satisfied with a breeding until there had been actual ties over multiple days of breeding. Conception can, of course, happen without a tie, but it is an insurance that I wouldn't want to skip over.

Look on the bright side...next time she goes into season, you will be that much more prepared AND that much more excited. Best of luck when that rolls around. I'm sorry it didn't take. Total bummer

I'm sorry to hear this, Pam. I agree with Sophie, though, everyone I know who does live cover allows the dogs to tie several times over a number of days. If you have to do AI, it is done with the help of a repro vet who can test the bitch's hormone levels to time the AI as closely as possible. Even then, AI seems not to be as sure a bet.

I hope you have better luck on her next heat!

So sorry Pam, what a deflating thing to have happen. Hopefully it will next time.
