feeding once a day?

Does anyone here feed their Hav's only once a day? I am wondering if that may help the finickiness. And if so, at what age did you start doing that? Jasper (1.5 years) pretty much eats once a day anyway(if that) and Cash has begun to be finicky as well- plus I think Cash may be becoming a little chubby from stealing all of Jasper's treats (eventually jasper gets 1 treat that I put right in his mouth and Cash has stolen 3)

What are your thoughts on feeding once a day?

I'm in the same boat. I keep wondering if he's ever full! When I give him his food (1/2 a cup in the morning, 1/4 a cup at night as per food instructions) he wolfs it down.

Should I give him any more? He's close to 5 months old and he's a lil over 7 lbs. I don't want him overweight. I got Sinatra when he was overweight and it took me a year of controlling his diet and giving him healthy weight food to get him back to a good size..

Oh Capote's Mom, I wish we were in the same boat- Cash wolf's down everything BUT his kibble (I mix in cooked raw medallions)- and jasper well he is a real fussy boy all the way around. How does Capote feel? can you feel his ribs? If you can I wouldn't worry about him getting fat--- just keep doing the rib test you can always cut back--- perhaps you could do 1/3 cup at night. What do you feed Caopote?

Kara, is Gucci more of an Omega dog? Jasper will not even go to his food bowl until all of us have eaten-- me, my husband and Cash. Then he'll eat his bowl and sometimes cleans up Cash's remains. So if Gucci is an Omega she may only eat after you have. When we first got Cash we tried to up Jasper's status by feeding him first -- He said NO WAY!!! Śren't these little fur balls funny?

How much food should I be feeding Beamer?
When we got him 3 wks ago we wer told to give him 1/2 cup per day split into 3 meals. He was 3lbs then andnow he is probably around 4lbs. Should I still keep him at 1/2 cupa day or up it some? not that it would matter anyways..he not going to eat it?!??! lol

Oh Kara, I am so amazed at how much you do with all you have to deal with- you are an inspiration.

I am still feeding them 2x per day. But it also depends on them. Sometimes they will not eat early a.m., so if I feed them later in the day, that is usually their only meal. Shelby is a chow hound and will eat both bowls if I don't watch her.

We free feed and haven't had any overweight problems from it. For treats have you tried carrots instead of high calorie goodies? Our dogs all love them.

does anyone leave food out all day? i use to and a trainer suggestd i pick up food due to separation anxiety issues, my dog needed to learn nothing was free or accessible soooo, i put it down 3x a day, breakfast, lunch, dinner. he sometimes eat in the morning and then again in the evening. never the same thing twice! he eats 1/2 cup food (dry) a day. he's only 9lbs. if he wants more i will give it to him because he asks for it so infrequently and weight isn't an issue.

Hi Jan, Cash loves carrots!!! he'll eat anything!!! Jasper the one I am always trying to treat because he doesn't eat that regularly will not touch them--- He's not skin and bones but he is not at all chubby and he will vomit bile if he eats nothing--So I am always trying to sneak him some Dried rabbit fillets- but Cash can be clear across the house and smell it or hear it and comes like a jet bomber sometimes and grabs it from Jas. Of course I am getting better and now guard Jas while he eats- I stand between them. Cash is learning that He can't bother Japer's food dish- we're still working on treats.
