Forum Puppy Sitters.

Hi all...

Yet another question from a newbie. This seems like such a friendly group, and, as evidenced by last weekends gathering a rather large number of folks hail from the 9 county SF Bay Area. So, I'm wondering if anyone has yet developed a list of playmates that might have owners willing to sit for anothers puppy wile gone on vacation or a weekend etc.

For example - In September I'm planning on being gone for about 10 days on a rather long motorcycle ride into Colorado and the Rockies. I had originally planned on bringing Snickers along with me. But doubt that's actually going to happen now that she's actually here and part of the family. We could 'leave her alone during the day while Lynda's at work and taking care of her mom with Alzheimers" or we could "Put her in a Kennel (YUCK)." or we could "let the neighbor come over once a day and see that she has food and water". None of those (I believe) would substitute for a great friend to play with and a mom / dad to keep an eye out for the puppy's well being. I'm sure there are other options too like putting her back at her breeders etc.

Just wondering if this is an option or?????

Cheers!

I think it's a great idea and there are quite a few forum members in the east bay.

Great idea, Jim. There are a bunch of Hav owners in your specific area.
Best case, another Hav owner volunteers to babysit.
Second best case, Snickers' breeder babysits her.
Worst case, kennel her. She would hate being kenneled.
Is Snickers house trained? That might help people decide if they want to dog sit for her. She sure seems like a sweetheart!

Potty Trained -- Well, were working hard on it. She's as stubborn as she is cute. Her communication skills at letting me know that she has to go "Now" aren't so good, and I miss them more often than not. At least she sleeps all night long and so far has kept her accidents to the tiled kitchen floor. Hopefully by September she'll be at least 'silver' if not 'golden'.

And, at the moment I'm only asking if this is something the group might consider doing - I'm not yet looking for a sitter, as I 'might' yet be able to take her along - Only time will tell.

Cheers!

We also have gotten lucky for Kipling in that one of the trainers from our puppy classes also cares for dogs. So Kipling goes to his place. He keeps up to 4-5 dogs at once at the maximum but basically it's a home daycare type setting (this is how I equate it to the care choices I had for my kids). So the added benefit is Kipling gets continuity on his training and he knows his caregiver. He loves being with the other dogs too. I looked at a kennel when we first got him. In this case they leave dogs in crates overnight in a warehouse. No way! I never went back there.

Jim, that's an excellent idea and something I'd LOVE to have available around me. I'd be thrilled to puppy sit other Havs, but only know 2 women that have them and they live a good 40 min. drive from me. We've gotten together a couple of times, but one just got a new Hav puppy last winter and time just flew by.... haven't seen it yet. This woman generously watched our boys 3 summers ago and I was SOOOO grateful!

There are members that are already doing this for each other, but having some kind of "bulletin board" about it on the forum, makes great sense!

That sounds like a really good idea. Unfortunately, I've only ever heard of one other hav around here. Thankfully for Stella and I, either my daughter, my mother or my groomer babysit her when I'm gone. My daughter and groomer both have kids so she has lots of play time when she's with them.

Do you have a groomer who'd be willing to puppysit?
