Wow. Way to go Joey Herrick. I love the honesty in his letter and the way he stands up for his product. Even after his private testing came up negative he still is ding a voluntary recall of the product. I find that kind of behavior pretty impressive and pretty rare these days.

Sally, thanks for posting this. Fortunately, my bags are not from the lot recalled.

Christy, I agree with you. I wish there were more owners like him and more companies that manufactured in the US. Benji and Lizzie used to love Duck chips that used to be made by S. CA company but now the product is made overseas and after all the scares we have had with pet foods, I stopped buying it. I miss seeing their excitement at getting their favorite treat.

Best, Poornima

I agree with all of you. I feed Natural Balance, and this recall only makes me feel better about the company. Kodi's food is not affected, as he gets NB Organic. But it's nice to see that the company is being so proactive both with the testing AND the recall.

This is how I felt about Nature's Variety when they recalled their raw chicken. It actually gave me more confidence. Oh how I wish my two did ok on kibble.

Talking about the NB Organic, I wish they had organic duck and potato, grain-free formula.

Best, Poornima

Our Gandorf still eats Natural Balance Ultra Small Breed Bites and has for a long time now, which is not the one being recalled, and like others glad to see the response from Joey. Make me feel much better about the company. We have tried lots of other foods but our picky Gandorf always goes back to the Natural Balance so that is where he will stay.

Me too. He does fine on the Organic chicken, and really doesn't seem to have a problem with the grain. But I'd feel like a "better mother" if I could feed him the Duck and Potato formula in an organic formula. I just hate all the hormones, pesticides and antibiotics that get into our food supply, though, and try to buy organic as much as possible for the family. I figure a small dog's system has to be even harder hit by all that stuff than a human is.

So until they add Duck and Potato to their organic line-up, we'll stick to the chicken formula kibble, and he can enjoy the rolled food Duck and Potato for training treats.
