New Litter Box Behavior

OK, Kodi absolutely amazed me today. He ran over to his litter box and got in. I was a littler surprised, because we had just come in from outside, and he had already done his business out there.

He didn't do his "potty dance" that he does before pooping, nor did he just climb in and stand there as he does when he uses it to pee. He carefully turned around in the box and then vomited in the corner of it!

HOW did he ever figure out that he should do that? I can't even remember the last time he vomited for any reason, and we certainly haven't made any effort to try to get him to use the box this way. Of course we did tell him he was a really good boy for doing it!

Oh, and I'm sure the reason he vomited was from eating too much grass outside... It was mostly grass that came up!

Dizzie is not litter box trained, but obviously our cats are,and if ever they are sick they use the litter tray,I don't know how they know to do that!just instinct I suppose, mind you the cats have never had an accident in the house, not even the kittens who were born under DH's desk, their Mum showed them how to use the litter and that was that!!If only it was so easy with a puppy,it took Dizzie until he was 6 months old!Clever Kodi.

Yes, it's amazing how instinctive it is for cats. You don't even THINK about "house training" kittens... it just happens. Even with the feral cat we took in at one point. It took her no time to find the litter box, figure out what it was for, and begin to use it regularly. She never had an accident in the house, and she'd never been IN a house.

However, we've never had a cat use the litter box to get sick. They just upchuck where ever they are. (and now that we have a dog, if we don't find it fast enough, HE eats it!
