Barkwheats

Have any of you tried Barkwheats? They're a treat made with buckwheat flour, which is grain-free, and they use ingredients mostly from local farmers in Maine. They make a ginger and parsley one that we give to MacGyver before car trips -- usually give him 3 or 4 in his breakfast. It's really helped with the motion sickness. They also make a pumpkin flavored one, which he loves.

I've never heard of them? I guess the stores around here aren't carrying them yet.

I just ordered some! I'm also going to look into having them at a Fair Trade sale we're going to host at our church in the fall. We're really trying to educate people about fair trade and the benefits to other people. Sometimes cheapest isn't always the best!

Thanks for the link!

Great -- I have to order them, too. I found them originally in a store in Maine, but no place near us carries them yet. I know the company is working hard at getting them into places that sell quality products. A few Whole Foods now carry them.

Well, they can't be grain free... buckwheat IS a grain. Do you mean wheat free?

Buckwheat is actually not a grain. It is a pseudocereal like quinoa, also not a grain.

Boo, thanks for letting me know about this product. Although the dogs love biscuits, grain treats always give them the runs, so I might try some of this one for special days.

I stand corrected. I knew it was a different type of plant, but didn't realize it was not considered a grain.
