is my doggie a havanese? pic inside

hey everyone,

i found my dog sasha on the streets when she was a puppy and to this day i am not 100% sure what breed she is! lol at first i thought she was a maltese or poodle but once i did my research i noticed that she looks alot like a havanese. i love her so much i would love for her to have puppies but im not sure what to breed her with.

if anyone could tell me if she looks like a havanese that would be appreciated.

Whatever she is, she is adorable!! But I would say you are prob right wtih guessing a Maltese or Poodle mix. Her eyes are very large and round, where a Havanese has almond shaped eyes.

Looks like a poodle or bichon mix to me - she's so cute!

I highly recommend AGAINST you breeding her. Breeding should only be done in cases where the breeder's intent is to better the breed, for conformation and temperament. Since you don't even know Sasha's breed or background, breeding her is a very, very bad idea. There are already millions of dogs like Sasha who end up in shelters and are euthanized every year. Over 4 million dogs are put to death in the US every year simply because the shelters cannot find homes for them! Don't add to this problem - instead, do yourself and Sasha a favor and have her spayed, then, encourage friends and family to rescue dogs or purchase pure breeds from reputable AKC breeders.

I'm sorry, but I totally agree with Natalie on the strong advice against "trying" breeding. It is not something to do "for fun" Please, please reconsider! Sasha's adorable, but that is the least of your concerns should you dabble in breeding her.

I couldn't have said it better, Natalie.

My GUESS would be that she's not a Havanese nor a pure bred dog, but she sure is a cutie pie!

I agree 100% with what Natalie said. You have no idea what is in this dogs linage. There could be a host of problems hidden in her lineage that you will never know about and your dog (hopefully) will never develop. But, they would be there waiting to affect another innocent puppy. Please spay this dog and leave the breeding to the pros!

Vinny, Lulu, Gabby and Richie too!

Sasha is adorable. My best guess would be either maltese/poodle or bichon/poodle mix.

I agree with everyone else about the idea about breeding her. (and that she's probably not a Hav too) She is cute as a button, but there are way too many dogs in shelters already. Only the best pure breds, in the hands of knowledgeable breeders should be bred. There are MANY of us here that have gorgeous, registered Havanese like my Kodi with two champion parents, good conformation and great bloodlines, who wouldn't dream of breeding our dogs, and have done the responsible thing by neutering them.

Even if you aren't concerned about the over population of mixed-breed dogs, keep in mind that having puppies can be dangerous for the momma dog too. Do you really want to take a chance on losing her?

Enjoy her for the adorable little pet that she is. If, later, you really have the desire to get into showing and breeding dogs, find a mentor, buy the very best stock you can find and do it right.

Regarding the issue of breeding, there was a thread right here on this forum recently where the breeder's mother dog died after giving birth (eclampsia, I believe). It happens even with the pros. It is not something to take on casually.
