I feel terrible.

I was trimming Fluffy's nails tonight and I cut too close and made him bleed. I feel so bad. I hope it didn't hurt too much. He doesn't seem to be holding a grudge. After I did it I felt so bad but he just wagged his tail at me and bleed. : (

The first time I trimmed Rosie's nails--the very first nail--I cut to close. It bled and she yipped; but I just kept on trimming. I didn't say a word to her and kept on. I knew if I made a fuss, I would have trouble the rest of her life. She calmed by the third nail and haven't had any trouble since. But, I don't like trimming her nails. I really keep them to long. It didn't bother her; but it sure bothered me.

I'm sure even vets and groomers have this happen sometimes. Try not to worry too much. It will heal and Fluffy will forgive you. Next time you'll do better.

At least you tried. I bought nail clippers a couple of months ago and I can't work up the courage to even try.

To me it's no different than pulling their skin to get out a mat. Jackson never loves any of it, but he always knows there is a treat at the end. I have yet to see him hold it against me! Do not continue to feel bad . . . we have all had our grooming moments!

I've done that before, cut too close to the quick. It's upsetting and, with the bleeding, it can freak you out a bit.

Nowadays I use a Dremel grinder with the Peticure cap attachment. The dogs handle it amazingly well, even April who HATES to have her nails done! She used to bite when we tried to clip her nails but with the grinder no more biting.

Pepper will actually lay back on my arm, belly up, while I grind his nails with the other hand. The difference is ME. I am very comfortable with this method.

dab it in a bar of soap, and they're good to go. LOL

I've done it too, only to Gracie, and it's happened a couple of times. I have a little cornstarch on a paper towel just in case and it stops it immediately.

Last time I did Scooter's nails he pulled away just as I clipped on his dew claw and it pulled out almost all of his nail!!! It cut him too, just on the outside of the nail. Bled like crazy! He screeched once but we kept on going and he didn't fight any more than normal.

I HATE doing nails!!!
