Cool Wanted in the Bed

Hi All. Well two nights ago we had a hard time getting radar to sleep in his Crate. We kept clawing his way against the door and wouldn't stop whining....He's such a whiner when he can't get his way. I took him to the litter box three times because I didn't want him to go in the crate because I thought he had to go.

It's the only time he really whines like that if he didn't have to go and then he got "three Year-Old child Syndrome" Y'know when you get all the Winter gear on your kids and then they have to go pee once all five pounds of clothing is on them.....

Well after taking him out for the third time, My wife came into bed. She was staying up and we thought that if we were both in the bed then maybe he would calm down. Well that didn't help. The minute we got him into the bed with is he calmed right down and slept with us all night in the bed. I didn't really want him to because of his age and his reliability factor being not as high and I would have wanted it to be.

My Wife then tells me that she has had him in the bed before when I was at my second job which is the night shift. I didn't care for that at all..... but he didn't have any accidents!!! Radar will actually lick my wifes face when she's in the bed with him to wake her up and tell her that he's gotta go potty. It's pretty good if him to do that I think and it's actually a pretty smart thing to do, I actually didn't think he would do that. Well he had a flawless night which was good and could have just been a fluke. He was in his crate last night though because I don't want him to think he can get his way anytime he wants just because His Mother is a big pushover and will let him do it so she can get kisses from him----doesn't want to be the bad cop.....

Mine sleep in bed with us, and it wasn't me who started it. Kodi will jump off the bed if he has to go, but then whines to get back in. Shelby won't jump off, so she whines and I have to take her to the pee pad and put her back in bed. They sleep all night through, usually.

Mine sleeps in bed with me, and it wasnt' my idea! I thought for SURE my husband wouldn't allow it. So I bought the crate and set it up next to my bed on a table, Well....her first night nere I bring her up to bed and start to put her in the crate and hubby says "Let her lay in bed with us for a few to settle down"

Well......that was it. She's slept with us Ever since and never saw the inside of a crate! lol

She also licks or nudges us to get up and take her out, even though she can get down of the bed on her own (we built her steps)

We haven't had any issues or problems with it training wise, even though I really educated myself on crate training and planned on going that route...

She is 6 months old now, and will wait for us to get home to go potty outside (even though I leave a pad out) She's doing great...

And I love snuggling with her at night! But I do have to bathe her frequently, especially in the summer months, since she does sleep pretty much right in my face, or my husbands! lol

Another cute thing she does is she "digs my bed" for me! lol She'll hop up there when she knows I'm about to get in bed and dig right on my blanket! lol (I'm assuming she's doing this as a kind gesture, to make sure I have a comfortable spot! )

And, I think she thinks she protects us at night. She'll bark at any noise and fly off the bed to alert us of anything going on. Its so cute to me. She protects me! All 6 lbs of her! haha

Beamer is the exact opposite..lol.. He will let us know when he thinks someone is around our house... when cars pull up to the driveway or what have you. He wil run to the stairs all excitied. but he does not bark...
And noises at night do not wake him.. hes a pretty good sleeper..

The only time i have ever heard him bark is when i vacumed in front of him once. and it wasnt really a bark, it was more of an arf... lol

I think Radar just wanted to sleep with his 'pack'. If he's being reliable through the night and with waking your wife up to take him out, then he's doing really, really well! What a smart little guy you have there.

My husband really trained her to bark and alert us, I think she would've gone either way, but he encouraged her to act like a "watchdog", that's what he wanted......and she does. He gives her alot of praise.

But last night, we had a real ISSUE with the fireworks, she was going BONKERS. So I had to take her outside and let her see and then firmly tell her "no" to stop barking, after a certain point, I was ready to pull my hair out because I was exhausted from entertaining so many out of town guests this week.

She finally settled down, but we had to turn the fan on high and the TV up loud!

Atleast it only happens once a year! And maybe this weekend w/ leftover fireworks.

We put a cedar chest at the end of the bed and the havs use that to get on and off the bed. As puppies though I crate them. Sometimes we put a small crate between our pillows and let the puppy sleep there. I think that's when it's bugging us not them that they aren't sleeping with us on the bed.

Kara, when I get a puppy I take them outside every time it thunders and rains so they get used to loud noises. We make it a party where we all get drenched to the bone and act like idiots dancing and playing in the rain. I'm sure my neighbors think I'm nuts when they see that, but it's worked really well for me. Could you give that a try and see if you could get her used to noises?
