need new substitute for chews

django use to chew purina rawhides in chicken flavor like crazy when he was on his pred. he never ate them just licked the flavor off them. now that he's almost off the pred he has no interest in them. i think they were like cigarettes for him, helped him with his nerves and all. i bought him lambs ears but he's not to thrilled with them. any suggestions. he has beef allergies

Pig ears? Hooves? bully sticks? How about those large dry bones with the 'filling' in them? Go to a feed store or Petsmart/Petco and cruise the dog bone isle- there are lots of choices!

I second the antler idea. Sydney doesn't go nuts for it the way she does with a flossie, but I leave it out all the time and she definitely chews on it at least a couple of times a day. I wouldn't say it's a "treat" the way that something like a flossie is, but she does like to give it a good chew.

flossies are those rope like things with loose threads on each end, right? i have to watch alot of the bully sticks because they are beef based. can't do the pigs hooves, that's my issue, it's a gross visual for me.

My two love Antlers too. But as a "snack" they love freeze dried chicken products. The best (free range, minimum ingredients.....) are from Free Range: http://www.freerangedogchews.com/cat...tion.asp?sec=2 Their treats are LOVED by my two! They also have lamb and beef treats that are grass fed.... They really love the kiwi/chicken the best with the sweet potato/chicken a close second. Its a larger treat that takes them a couple of minutes to chew up! I buy them at the doggie boutiques - but they are a lot cheaper on the internet and I'm going to start buying them of Amazon.....

Kodi can't eat beef either. At the dog shows there is usually someone selling turkey tendons, and they are great chewys. The only problem is that I haven't found a source for them OTHER than going to a show.

In between, we use the stuffed bones that someone else emntioned. The nice thing about these is that you can re-stuff them almost indefinitely. And, of course, there are Kongs, if you don't live with "Jaws" errr - Kodi... the only Hav I've heard of who actually destroys them.

django gets his kong when we leave him for a couple of hours, always with special treats he only gets when we leave. thanks for the freeze dried chicken, that's what i give django in his kong but at 10.00 a bag, i'd love to find something cheaper that's good.

the chews are more for when he's home with us. i've set up the video camera when we leave and he sleeps all day so it's mostly when we ahve company or i just want to give him something special during the day. antlers, do they just chew or eat these? and thanks for the clarification on the flossies. no can do.
