Just curious.....

I am so in love with this breed that I forget there are others that are loved just as much! I know some of you have other breeds. Did they come to you before or after your Havanese? Do you participate in other breed specific forums?

My first dog was a beagle when I was in fourth grade. (Many moons ago...). I had a black lab in my 20's. Then a period of cats . We recently said good bye to two 14 year old cats. So now we have one 13 year old Maine coon cat and our little Penelope.
So far I'm finding the havanese to be so smart and really sweet. She's quite young and challenging in the usual puppy ways, but loving the breed.... looks, size, temperament etc!❤️

We have always had retired greyhounds in our home for the last 17 years. I did belong to an online forum for them as well.

Maggie's is our first small breed, and our first puppy.

I had a collie in my teens... Shasta was like Lassie. She was the sweetest dog and loved to run...especially out any open door! Many moons later I got my Dad a Havanese. I think they are the perfect dog!

Growing up, I had a black miniature pinscher, a Hungarian Visla, two American Water Spaniels, a red miniature pinscher, and a red doberman. I remember our last minpin (had her from age 12 to 27) and our doberman (from when I was 13 to 22) the best. Vixen, the minpin, was a sweetheart but hard to train in obedience largely because she was so afraid of all the other dogs and people. (No puppy socialization classes back then.) Sable, our dobe, was so smart and the sweetest dog ever. If I think about Sable and Vixen, I really do still miss them! I don't think of them too often, these days, however, not with Shama zooming around the back yard! We found the Havanese because my husband is allergic to most dogs, including many of the so-called hypoallergenics. We're very happy with Shama!

We had a Bearded Collie for 15 years, sweetest most gentle dog. So loving and a real comic. When we got Ollie our first Havanese he was like our Beardie in a little breed. His personality is so similar and the description of Havs sounded very much like what we had experienced with our Beardie that is what got me interested in them. They even look similar. Especially Oliver because he is a black and white parti. I adored our Beardie and still miss him, but having 2 Havanese has mended my heart and won it over too. I love my 2 Havs so much and wouldn't trade them for anything.

We have come from a history of Australian Shepherds. There was no Internet and chat lists back then. Each dog was special to us in their own way. We look forward to reuniting with them at the rainbow bridge for a joyous reunion sometime in the future.

We met out first Havanese at a neighbors house about 10 years ago. We were amazed at the characteristics of the breed, but we were not ready for another dog at that time. But a Havanese was put on our short-list for future consideration.

Ricky is our first small breed. He is just as special as all our other dogs. Ricky is perfect for us at this time in our lives, no other breed would do. Our lives would be incomplete without him. He has the ability to mend broken hearts and focus on the present and future. Once you have a Havanese, I don't think there is ever any going back.
