Kodi's Excellent Adventure
My Crazy 19 year old son is working in Vermont for the summer (that's not the crazy part) and living in the woods in an old army tent with a class mate. No running water, no electricity... they have a gym membership in town so they can take showers. It's a 10 minute hike through the woods to get from where you have to leave the cars to where they've got the tent. (the land is owned by the other boy's dad)
Well, we told him we'd come up to visit him, so off we went this weekend. I know some of you stay in hotel rooms all the time with your dogs, but we hadn't done it yet with Kodi, and really didn't know what to expect. We usually trailer camp, and he thinks the trailer is just like his "second home". He was a model citizen at the inn.
We only brought along his little plastic travel crate, not his big wire one, but I did bring his favorite crate pad. Both nights, when we got back to the inn, he just crawled into his crate by himself, without us even asking him to. The second night, we took Robbie out to dinner, so he had to stay alone at the inn in his crate. Not a peep out of him, and he didn't even want to come out of the crate to play when we got back.
He had a BLAST running through the (very wet) woods, through fields along a river, going to a waterfall (where we tried to wash the worst of the woods off of him!!!) and climbing Mt. Equinox (by car). He was a wonderful ambassador for the breed.
The only problem we had was HUGE mats after putting him back in his car harness and seat several times wet and dirty. (we didn't have much choice) Some were so bad I had to slice through them to get them loose. I sat in the back seat with him on the way home from the waterfall and worked on mats while the guys drove and chatted. I was able to get a lot of them out then, and the next morning, I tied him on the tailgate of the pickup, and gave him a really good comb through once he was entirely dry to get the rest of them out.
Here are some pictures of our adventure. The cute hunk of a guy is my son.
