photos from Walk For Animals

Team Havanese walked at the Animal Humane Society's Walk For Animals in Minneapolis on May 6. Team Havanese consisted of Jango (and Deb) and Shama (and Annie and DH). KarMar had told us she wouldn't be able to join us for the walk as she had nose work to do with Mario, but, lo and behold, we ran into Nino with KarMar's mom! Notice Nino's fancy blue tail! Team Havanese will walk again next year. Let us know if you wish to join us!

At the end of the day, we walked through the booths of some vendors. Unprompted, look what Jango did. So funny! He was a tired boy.

We had a great time on the walk! Looking forward to doing it again next year and growing our group even larger! Thanks for organizing us, Annie!

Just curious - does Jango have one of those leases that goes around the snout? I see something but can't quite tell what it is. Love the pictures and love the blue tail! That last of Jango on the blankets is so cute!

Yes, he has a Gentle Leader, which we use from time to time when we will be among a large crowd (there were thousands of people and dogs...and all kinds of other critters...cats, rabbits, goats, etc. there at the walk). When we take our daily walk, he usually just uses his regular leash. But with all the sights and smells and distractions at the walk, the Gentle Leader worked perfectly for him to keep walking nicely along at the pace that Annie, Randy and I were setting. They can open their mouths, so it's easy for them to have snacks and drinks with the G.L. on, as well.

Thank you. Would it be useful in getting a reluctant walker to to follow along? Willow sometimes just doesn't want to walk along with me. Lots of time she just stands and stares!

Oh, gosh, that I don't know...we have the opposite problem! I walk Jango anywhere from 3-5 miles a day...he still has a lot of his puppy energy and as long as he has a water break on the longer walks, he pretty much prances along the entire way without slowing down. Does she stop when she is tired? Or more if she gets distracted? If it's because she's distracted, the Gentle Leader might work well.
