Havie Cots for the patio?

We recently had a deck with pergola and paver patio added to the back yard (still waiting for awnings...) and plan on spending more time in the back yard once the furniture arrives! LOL... in the meantime, when we're out there Daisy and Beau just plop down on the pavers or deck. I am thinking about buying or MAKING cots for them to lie on when we're out there. The deck and pavers can be warm from the sun, they could be damp from morning dew, or there could be ants or something crawling around (yuck..)

Does anyone have a doggie cot?
Do you havies like it?
Has anyone tried to MAKE one out of PVC pipes and Sunbrella fabric?
(Then I could match my furniture!)

Hate to go to the expense or work if they aren't going to like it, but I think they'd be more comfortable off the ground and cooler too!

Lynda I have been wanting to buy some cots for the pups. You can order them through alot of different places such as Petedge, Fosters&Smith and Kurunda. I think the pups will like it because it will allow air to flow under it. I like the the idea of making it then you can have it match. They are usually green that I have seen. Good luck!!!

I know the place I boarded Daisy (once - about 16 months ago) used dog cots and I was allowed to bring a blanket to put on it - but I don't know if she actually used it or not. It just seems cleaner and cooler....

We have a bunch of them. All our dogs use and enjoy them. You can see them on our picture gallery page (I think that's where they are-also one I know on Belle's page. We have some that we bought and some we made. Sunbrella is nice stuff, but we like the tight mesh ones best since you can hose them off and it drains right through for quick drying.

We ordered some 3 way PVC elbows(Google search-I think we used 1 1/4") and Pam played around with the dimensions of the tops in one piece so we could force the pipe in to assemble. Some of the ones you buy have tops held on with Velcro. These are most useful for puppies because they love to chew and pull on the Velcro and pull them apart. We cut the legs shorter on the ones for little puppies.

I went and looked. We have some we made with 1 1/4" and some with 1". Both are fine, but there's no real need to go above 1". You can see a couple here-one we made and one bought one with PVC pipe leg extensions:http://www.starbornhavanese.com/images/DSC_0143.JPG The one Roxie is in there is 17"x30" x 12"high. The 1 1/4" framed ones are larger. The fabric is some sort of marine mesh.

This is the place I ordered the fittings from.

Yeah, our pack has a hard life!! I think it's funny in that picture that Pam's shirt says "Dog Days".

She said she made the top 1/2" smaller than the outside size of the frame. With that and taking up a little space from the fabric going from flat to around the pipe, it was a pretty tight squeeze getting it on. There was no need to glue up the top part of the frame.

Tom, thanks for all the info. They look great! How did you decide on the height? I was thinking shorter - maybe 8" off the ground....but maybe there is a reason I haven't thought of to make them taller. Are they stable when they jump up on them?? It would probably scare Daisy to death if it wobbled (Beau wouldn't care!). I am wondering if I can source the fabric on our patio furniture. (Wouldn't you know I picked an uncommon bronze, gold and red geometric....) I might just try to make my own.... Thanks!
