Feeding amount????

Well My Wife and I feed Radar Eukanuba Small Breed Puppy Formula. It's pretty good for him. It's got the DHA in it for Brain Function and Radar really likes it. Well the feeding amount was really off!!! On the bag of food it said that he should be getting 1 1/3 cup for the day. That's a lot of food for a hav in one day......

I'm not sure if he could eat that much food in a day.... The feeding recomendations don't jive with what the Breeder told me and what I have read on this forum. Does anyone else have this conflicting problem with feeding??

Derek

Nico gets Purina Pro Plan Puppy Small Breed formula. The feeding instructions say 3/4-1 cup a day now, increasing to 1 cup a day after he's 3 months old. The breeder had recommended 1/2-3/4 cup a day to start out with, increasing to 3/4 to 1 cup. When we first brought Nico home we gave him 1/4 cup 3 times a day, but we cut out the noon meal within a week because he wasn't eating it. So now he gets 1/4 cup twice a day, plus he gets a Purina Pro Plan biscuit. The instructions on the biscuit package say to reduce his kibble to make up for the calories in the biscuit, but they don't say by how much, so not very helpful. Anyway, the recommended amounts on the Pro Plan package seem to be pretty much on target, even though my pup eats a little bit less than they recommend. I can't imagine feeding him 1-1/3 cup - that seems like an awful lot for such a small dog.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing when I saw the amount. There's no way I'm gonna take the word of a bag of dog food over what the Breeder tells me. We're gonna be moving Radar up to about a 3/4 cup amount anyway. He's 16 Weeks on the 8th in Sunday so that's the best time to do it I think.

Has Radar eaten all the food that you have been putting out? Do you free feed or pick the food up after a certain amount of time? Radar will be 16 weeks tomorrow--how much has he been eating and how much does he weigh? Brutus weighed 5.6# at 16 weeks, ate about 3/4 Cup of kibble and had 1/4 cup (eqivalent) as treats. He never seemed starved.

Rox ie is 15 weeks, weighs 3.6# and we work hard to make sure that she eats. At this point, if she wanted 2 cups/day she would get it.

hmmm

Rox seems the same as Beamer... he is 4 months tomorrow and 3.8 pounds. He is fed half a cup of kibble a day... probably only eats about 75% or so... but also gets treats and other stuff... so, he probably eats half cup of food a day. Why is it that the directions on the food say to feed atleast 1 cup a day??? so why do our guys get half of the reccomended amount??????????????????

Well we won't know Radar's weight until Monday but he does eventually eat all his food when we give it to him. Most times he eats it all within thirty minutes. He probably weighs in at 5.5 lbs I would guess. He was 4.4lbs at the Vets a month ago so mayber even more than 5.5 lbs.......even 6lbs even.
