Not sure where this goes...

My friend LOVES my puppy and they are thinking of getting a puppy sometime next year, and she is thinking Hav. We live on Long Island and I was wondering what "reputable" breeders I could point her at to get information/start applications now. I still am not sure how to tell the difference and not sure whats near by. She is willing to travel/drive depending on where and what is needed.

Please let me know some sites/contacts I could give her so she can hopefully get a puppy someday

I can't directly help you, but I know there are a lot of members here in the New England area, and I am sure they will chime in and be glad to help you. Remember to also keep HRI in mind, for rescues that need great homes

jenn, izzy,fergus and harry too!

I hope the East Coast members who know reputable breeders will respond to you. I don't know any breeders personally since I moved from CA and my pups are from a reputable breeder in CA.

I, however, would like to urge you to recommend she read the following books on the Havanese and visit the following links:
The Havanese By Diane Klumb
How to Raise a puppy you can live with by Clarice Rutherford

Havanese Club of America: http://www.havanese.org/

The HF thread: Importance of good breeder: http://www.havaneseforum.com/showthread.php?t=7098

I wish your friend good luck with her search!

Best, Poornima

Hey Gizmo! A couple of recommendations were made in my thread for our area.

They are wonderful and produce AMAZING dogs! If you look at my thread "guess who got a sister", you will see Paisley (our new addition) is from Wynward. The other is Faireland havanese and the breeder's name is Candi. Our first Havanese, Guapo is one of her pups. She definitely only has 1 litter of Havanese a year, and I've noticed a trend that they are generally born in the spring, but you can contact her and put in an application. Then she will let you know when she has a litter and you can decide then if you want one. Again, I would HIGHLY recommend either of these breeders.
Also as someone pointed out and I am discovering it is possible to adopt from afar if your friend is willing to fly to pick up their baby.

She mentioned be willing to drive, she didn't mention flying, but I didn't mention it either so I think she wants something on the East Coast somewhere.

I will give her those in the list I make her

Yes, I know June Hartzog, Jubo-Lee Havanese. We got Tucker from her in June 2009. DH and I think the world of her. She does all the health testing and other things recommended on the forum. Having the best, healthy Havs are a priority for her. June loves for you to keep her up-to-date on the dog you adopted from her. She's always available to help with any question, issue, etc. As I've related here before, June, was the breeder we got Scooter from in April of 2009 He died after a tragic accident three weeks after we got him. When I called June to tell her, she said when DH and I were ready for another puppy, she would GIVE us one and she did - Tucker.
