Ache "rough playing" with my Chihuahua...

Hello. Ache is ALWAYS trying to bite and jump over my 5 y/o Chihuahua.
( she is 4 lbs 9 ounces and Ache is almost 7 lbs ) My Chi is a very shy dog and it took 1 1/2 months for her to begin playing with Ache. Our trainer came home and gave me some suggestions for them. I am keeping Ache on leash when they are playing because I have to keep control of her as I don't want my Chi to get scared again and go back what we have improved already. When Ache is in puppy classes she doesn't try to bite the other puppies at all. (all the puppies are bigger than her... )
I would love to let Ache off the leash when they play but I am scared. Any suggestions ? I will appreciate your thoughts on this.

My 10 lb Lilly always bites at my 90 lb Hannah when she wants to play. I kind of wish Hannah would put her in her place but she just tolerates it for the most part. When Lilly is continuously wound up, I try to spend extra time playing with her myself and that seems to help. She needs a lot of stimulation.

OMG That's scary. I try to make her tired before letting them play togethter but her excitement is always the same. The Chi seems to be tolerating it, so far. Yhanks for your reply, Lilly's mom.

What did you trainer say? Maybe its just typical dog establishing the pack order type of thing and once that's settled, its fun and games? Pups can be a bit rambunctious but I think they calm down a bit, I'd just supervise it closely and praise mellow behavior when they play together.

they play rough as puppies

My Daisy was tough in the beginning and I was worried that our older havanese would hurt her. My trainer told me to let them work it out. I think my dog, however, enjoyed this rough housing as yours does not.

Here is a video of the day we brought her home, she is a character. She doesn't like any other dogs, even havanese but him...she still is smaller but alpha over him in the house and he protects her outdoors...

Most of the time, the dogs work it out. If she bites him, make a puppy yelp...high pitched ouch, which is what the mother dog would do. This also works if puppies nip.

You can see my daughter was very excited, she is now 13!

Thanks for the replies. Love your video, Rikidaisy. My trainer suggested to make good things happen when they are together. My chihuahua is very shy and not too social so the trainer asked me to keep my hav on leash to control her when they are playing. She said it won't be good for Ache to be bitten in this stage of her socialization. They are playing more and more but Ache is getting bigger and my Chi is very small. I am trying to let Ache be off leash with the Chi for short periods of time and distract them with treats so she is not so crazy on top of my little Chi. Thanks again.
