More on Silvering

I don't know why this topic is so fascinating but it is!

It's been fun watching Sophie silver. She now looks almost like a siamese cat from behind and her silvering is creeping up all over her body. She still looks black from a distance but she was next to our friends black havanese the other day and could really see she is lighter overall and lots of silvering on pants especially but now on shoulders, legs, up her sides, behind ears etc. Have no idea how far it will go (she is 2 now) but it's fun to see.

Would love pics of any of the black hav's here who have silvered, during the process?

I don't know if there is truth to this, but I was told that typically whatever color is around a puppy's eyes, will tend to be the majority color in the long run. Tux was pitch black and snow white with gray-brown around his eyes. Now his black has been replaced with the same color around his eyes although a tad darker. There are some remnant black hairs on his ears, but those are changing as well.

I have heard that too especially with sables. I know Karen's Pixels littermate was light around the eyes as a young pup and silvered out beautifully. Sophie though was jet black everywhere but her white beard. She did develop some red her first year which Karen says she's seen prior to silvering often. Even her breeder didn't expect her to silver since she showed no signs of it until she was about a year old. I was walking her today and couldn't stop staring at her pretty butt. LOL.

I see i don't have a really good photo of her bum as it looks now will get one, but the last pic here was in May and it has been a big change even from then.

Here's my little Moxie girl, oh how I miss her! She was black and white at birth, but as said before notice the light color around her eyes...she lightened up to a beautiful pewter color. The last picture was taken 2 days before we lost her.

Perry is definitely silvering, but at 16 months old, it's still hard to see in a picture - it sort of looks (as Karen described in a different post) as faded black in places. However, I am also noticing, in addition to the faded black, some very white individual hairs scattered around his back and he's got one white patch on one foot that seems to be getting bigger (or maybe it's an illusion because he's so shaggy right now).

I think this picture is where you can see the faded bits (and maybe a little silvering on his chin)

Eeee Ditto and Phoenix are so precious! I love Ditto's "blue point" ears what color was he as a pup?

Bowie's Mom what a BEAUTIFUL baby your Moxie was! I am so sorry you lost her She ended up a beautiful color and what a darling puppy in her black coat too! Thank you for sharing those photos of her!

Perry is too adorable upside down with his cong! How old is he? (and how is his leg?). Sophie also now has white hairs sprinkled thru her neck and back she didn't have any at all until recently. So his chin and the light parts on his body are faded and not highlights from lighting? These guys are so interesting with all of their color changes!

Perry loves loves loves his toys, including his kong (with or without anything in it). He's 16 months old today. His leg... he's still running around on 3 legs a lot of the time but he does seem to be walking more on all 4 every day. Still on crate rest though.

the lighter parts in the picture are mostly faded though some might be light as well - so hard to get a picture of the 'lighter' parts - it always looks like lighting. But in person he is sort of faded along his sides, dark black in a wide line down his back, though he's getting white hairs sprinkled amongst his back

That sounds very similar to Sophie dark broad stripe down back, fading along sides and white hairs sprinkled through out her darkest black on top.

I'm glad he is slowly improving but wish it was faster for you both! Is it his right rear?
