Smile How long is your hav's back?

Just wondering how long is your hav's back from base of neck to the start of the tail. I didn't know if there is a standard for back length. I know there is a standard range for height, but Im just interested in back length. Love to see the measurements and know if there is a standard range for back length.

I measured Ruby from the bottom of her head (last indent bump on the back of her head) to the start of her tail and she is 22" long.

Zelda: 11.5lb, Official agility 9.5" height (wither), I measured 11.5" shoulder blades to base of tail, (17" from base of skull)
Link: 15 lb, Official agility 12" height, measured 14" long (19.5" from base of skull)

P.S. I think the skull length is even less accurate as I really have trouble straightening them out.

Zelda is closer to confirmation look than Link. Link is not very Havanese like frame-wise in my book, his legs are too long and he does not have a flat topline (let alone rise slightly toward back). Thanks to his coat he doesn't look like some terrier mix (like when he's wet).

Link (May 2015) & Zelda (Feb 2014)

There is no "standard range" for back length. It needs to be in proportion to the size of the dog. There is a HUGE size difference between an 8 1/2" Hav and an 11 1/2" Hav, and that doesn't even begin to look at all the dogs above or below standard.

Here is what our standard says about back length:

"The height is slightly less than the length from the point of shoulder to point of buttocks, creating a rectangular outline."

And if you DO measure, it should be from point of withers to point of buttocks, not from withers to tail.

I got the medium and it fits her well and is very easy to get on and off without fiddly fasteners or anything being pulled over her head - which she hates.

Yes, the withers-to-tail measurement is often what they ask for for coats.
