Pray Drive:How pray driven are your dogs?

I have been told for agility it is good to have a dog with strong pray drive. Is there such a thing as too strong? Here are some pictures of unwanted guests that put my dogs pray drive in full throttle. My blind Lhasa catches possums, usually we catch him doing a victory lap...otherwise......
When I see him like this the chorus from the song "Psycho Killer" by the talking heads gose through my mind. Yogi my male Hace has a taste for Dove, he has eaten two.
We lock the dor door when it gets dark and turn on the flood lights to take them out. When we go away we lock them in. Oddly it is the humans that worry me.

OMG, I would die. Piper has none-she once went up to a bird that was obviously hurt and couldn't fly. I thought the worst but she ran up, sniffed it and tried to get it to play. She once picked up a bird that was already dead and I thought that was bad, I don't know what I'd do if she actually killed and ate something!

Mine think they are very tough and try to chase sparrows, but the truth is that they can't even catch the flies in the house. So they may be "prey-driven", but are not very effective! (Sorry, can't help but point out the spelling - at first I thought this was a thread about praying as in church )

OMGosh you have more critters than we do or at least more visible. We get snakes, do you? They might makeup for the mouse.

Wow, that is a lot of critters! Gucci's nose would be moving a mile a minute.

I've seen her chase rabbits around the yard but if one actually stopped, she'd probably sniff at it (from a distance) and walk off unsure of how to handle it. She's not the type to eat a mouse or anything, she's be on the chair, squealing with her paws flailing in the air like an old 50's movie!!

Dorothy, Sorry Pray Driven, instead of Prey is a joke between my DH and I. It always "You better pray there's nothing dead out there....Prey driven indeed". He's not the country type.
Sandi, we do have snakes Copper heads in July a young one came up into the yard for water when we had some hot, hot days, my female (thankfully she is white) went in to a dark
area of the yard, I followed only to see her jump back and something strike. It was a young Copper head out of the side of my eye I see Yogi notice and start running over I yelled "Yogi Sit" at the top of my lungs. He sat I picked up the Misty and high tailed in to the house yelling "Treat". Now I turn the lights on well before I take them out. The snakes usually stay in the woods in the day. The mouse is really a Cotton Rat, they eat grains and live in the woods (they look like big mice).

Robbie, Boo Boo, Yogi, and Misty's human.

Rosie has PLAY drive only. She will chase something just to play with it. She chases the chickens all the time and herds them. but,she has never put her mouth on one.

That's Kodi's perspective too. His goal for the neighbor's chickens is to get them back in their pen. As far as he's concerned, the durned things aren't safe outside the pen!<g>

And he LOVES chasing, pouncing on, tearing apart or playing tug with his toys. He's rough on them, but loves them to death. (almost literally!<g>)

As far as agility is concerned, I think play drive is more important than true prey drive. Agility is all about playing with your handler!
