Radar's Vet Appointment

Well Radar had his Vet Appointment today.....last one before his Neutering Appointment. We got all the Revolution for him to administer once a month until November and we scheduled his Neutering Appointment for September at Six Months. The Vet said that if he was Neutered later on in age he may begin marking all over the place. She also gave Radar a treatment for Kennel Cough just in case he comes into contact with other dogs on his walks. It's given up the Nose apparently.

Radar was also given his Rabies shot in the same visit as well as the last sets of his normal shots. Hi Weight......well.......in this corner out of the Good ol' Toronto, Ontario Canada....Weighing in at a Whopping 6.5 lbs...it's "Radar"...... ................ ... I couldn't believe that Radar gained over two pounds in less than a month....He was 4.4 lbs on the 11th of June....Is this common for other Hav's?? I was wondering if we have other nice plump Hav's out there who have this kind of weight gain or it could just be normal. The Vet said that it's good Puppy Fat and that he's a very well fed dog. Horray for Radar.......

Derek, how old is he now?

Piaget is between 6.5 & 7.0 depending on the time of day. He was born April 3rd and is 14 weeks old (I think)

Derek, my Nico (now 3 months old) was 3 lbs. 7 oz. on June 10 and 5 lbs. 4 oz. on July 8. That's a gain of nearly 2 lbs. in just 4 weeks. Looking at it a different way, he increased his weight by 52% in that short period. Wow! All that on half a cup of kibble a day. It'll be interesting to see if he continues at anywhere close to that pace.

Gucci really had a big growing spurt between 3-5 months, but she slowed WAY down after the 5 month mark. It seems to be common from what I've read here on the board, that they grow quickly up until about a 6 months and then maybe a lb, 2, or 3 after that and pretty much stay in the same range, of course there are always exceptions to the norm..

I think Gucci is around 6 lbs, at 6 months, but she was the runt and her parents are on the smaller side, 8-9 lbs. So I'm not expecting much more of a gain. But gosh, her fur is growing now like crazy. lol

He sounds like a healthy lil' guy to me.

Right Now Radar is just over 16 weeks. His Ribs are not really too noticable when you hold him. The vet said he had some good puppy fat.

Wow you guys have little babies!! Logan was 8 lbs when he was neutered at 6 months. All of my guys are on the larger size, but I guess thats cause they come from the same stock!!

Well Radar is a big boy and he is a big eater as well. I'm sure we're up to 3/4 cup of food per day by now. At this rate he should be at over 10lbs at six weeks. I think the weight gain should plateau after a little while perhaps seven to eight months and then even out. Radar get's treats every day and he gets some sprinkle on his food, perhaps a little cheese or shredded carrots. His Ribs aren't really pronounced so I guess he should be pretty big when he gets older. The shots he got today really tired him out. He slept for the better part of the day today and only missed one meal. The Rabies shot does not seem to have hurt Radar either. I'm not sure where the Vet would have given the shot to him but he's pretty good to hold. the Vet really said he was a very good dog. He seemed to really Gravitate to her and he was very well behaved in the Vet's Office.

Brutus weighed 3.4# at 10 weeks, 5.0 at 14 weeks, 5.8 at 16 weeks. by 5 mos he weighed 7.8#. This last month, he only gained 1# so now at 6 mos he weighs 8.8#. He feels solid, but I can feel lots of ribs.

With 2 dogs it is harder to estimate how much he is eating.

I really think 2lbs a month is totally normal for a pup. It will taper down to 1lb per month and so on.
