Surviving the Hurricane

Tux and family fled Naples, Florida to seek refuge in an Atlanta hotel that harbored dogs along with their humans. I must give a huge shout out to Loew's Atlanta for their kindness and hospitality. They normally allow dogs, but this time was extreme. They have 400 plus units, and at the peak of the storm there were 245 dogs residing in the hotel. Dog lovers are wonderful people and consequently we had a great time visiting with just about every dog breed known to man. Tux was the favorite of the concierge who brought an entire bag of treats just for him. (Tux displayed all of his tricks which won his heart). Everyone could eat in the lounge areas with our puppies beside us and every dog was on their best behavior.

Tux arrived at the hotel on the first day, shy and leery of strangers carrying big bags and over-friendly dogs, some of which were HUGE. Ever seen a Leonberger? Tux has! Tux left with us a week later yesterday, a more confident and happy puppy, who was no longer afraid.

To all of you who were caught in either hurricane, I hope for you a quick recovery. It's never easy and certainly not fun to endure the ravages that mother nature can wreak, but there is eventually sunlight at the end, and sometimes even good things like the kindness of strangers is all you may need to get through.

What an adventure! Thanks for sharing the story. I am not surprised to hear that Tux won people over. He's adorable! (Can we see a video of his repertoire of tricks?) Great to hear about the hospitality you experienced. How is everything back at your house?

So glad that you are all safe and sound. What an adventure! Tux had quite an exciting learning experience........I'm sure that he charmed everyone. How did your home in Naples fare? We have a home in Venice that sustained minor damage: downed tree, ripped lanai screen, and some roof repair. We consider ourselves lucky! Thanks for reporting in....we were worried.

Glad you are safe! Leonbergers are HUGE! Sounds like a great experience in an otherwise bad situation.

So glad to hear you and Tux are ok. Leonbergers are HUGE! I googled the breed and found some pictures. Tux must have looked like a mouse next to one!

I don't know how to post videos. Would love to show Tux's tricks. Maybe I can figure it out. Our condo was fine, just a few minor leaks. The outside however looks like a bomb went off everywhere. It's the tropics so I'm sure the greenery will eventually return. I took a picture of the Leonberger we saw at the hotel. He is standing right next to his owner so you can get an idea of his size. If I had known him better, I would have placed Tux underneath him. That would have made a great shot! He was very gentle though.

So very glad that you and Tux are safe and your home was relatively spared. Hopefully, life will return to some normalcy for everyone that's been impacted.

I'm so glad you posted! I've been thinking about you and Tux keeping you in my thoughts and prayers. My H runs storms crews at a large PA utility, he has been busy sending fleets of linemen and even management teams down to Fla to get power restored as fast as possible.

Thank your husband for me and all of us that felt the brunt of these nasty storms. Those guys are a godsend!
