American Humane

A.H.A. has new board. This organization is taking a proactive approach to educating people about humane training and has enrolled a team of top behaviorists to do so. Some pretty impressive names listed. Hopefully they will set some new standards for our dogs down the road. Still no date the last I contacted them regarding the " National Pet Dog Training Summit "that is planned for the near future. http://abrionline.org/article.php?id=262

This is so important. Too many people don't know how to train dogs because they're only concerned about punishing them. Training will correct a behavior but punishment will break their spirit. The more educated we become in training, the more light is shined on areas that need improvement.

Right on Nancy. Too often we try to correct a perfectly normal doggie behavior rather than teach an appropriate alternate behavior. Since you mentioned punishment, this organization along with AVSAB has released a position statement on the use of punishment. I think it deserves a thread of its own, now that you brought it up. LOL (see PUNISHMENT) if you would like to read their statement. I will post it now.
