GRRRR Excrement!

What on earth is it that makes dogs actually want to roll around in another animal's excrement?????? We were having such a nice time in the yard until Gryff starts rolling around in a substance that would make any other mammal cringe. What is up with that? I had to stop everything so I could give him a bath. Smelly, disgusting creature.

They are *disguising* their scent, silly...much like we do with perfumes and soaps..... they just move the other direction, more primal and dirty, the sexier........harhahah.

I'm sorry you have to bathe that.....

ehh.......ack.

Maybe soak it in bleach????? he'll have a new white collar? IDK, I'd be tempted to toss it, too. I"ll never understand some of these things.

Gucci doesn't roll in poo, but she has rolled on my son's dirty socks on the floor or any other boy-ish sweaty thing she finds...... and that is usually a good time for a bath, lol

Ugh! Of all the disgusting things my troops do, and there are many, thank goodness that's not one of them. You poor thing.

Predators roll in excrement of prey animals so they can sneak closer before jumping them. If you think havies are bad - you should have known my old Beagle, Skipper. He loved to escape the back yard and would come home REALLY disgusting. Even though he had a short coat - I took him to the groomers for a double bath with odor killing shampoo!

+1 for Is-Indy's reply. that's what I was told. the other reason, which my 1/2 hav does with treats and bones, is he wants to smell like the item he likes. so he rubs himself all over it before he eats it.

thank goodness it ain't poop!

Rosie rolls in anything that smells bad, chicken poo (looks like tar and twice as sticky) dead frogs, etc. No way to break her it is just their instincts kicking in. My little schnauzers were really bad about it. My mother had a doschound (someday I will learn to spell that) that was really spoiled. Mother thought my dog was disgusting. Well, little miss princess wore bells around her neck so mother could hear her. she came in one day with poo all over her and in the bells. Mother cried and berated the dog. I of course had to clean it up. Couldn't help but be tickled though.

So far, Augie hasn't tried to roll in poo - he just likes to chow down on any he finds so have to watch him like a hawk. YUCK!!!

Funny this should come up now. Two days ago Lukey started to do this. Like- why all of a sudden. When I had him out this morning I saw him roll over and start to roll around in the grass and told him to leave it. When I got to him he was rolling all over a dead mouse. Ugh! Nothing like being late for work and having to give a quick wipe down and spray lots of doggie deodorizer. Always something.
