Lap Dog or Playboy?

Oreo was such a sweet cuddly baby puppy, but he is no longer interested in being a lap dog. Mostly he just wants to play, play, play! It is throw, fetch and tug, throw, fetch, and tug, over and over and over again. When he is not playing, he likes to stay close by, but prefers resting at my feet to being in my lap. He is 16 months old now. I am curious if he will return to being a lap dog when he is older, or is it once a playboy, always a playboy?

I think mine have always been players. They only rest against me when the play has exhausted them.

Shama is not a lap dog, but she lets us pet her more now than she used to. We have also wondered if she will become more of a lap dog with age . . .

I would say Loki is both. He will bring me toys to play fetch and tug, squeak and throw and shake and fight with his toys on his own, but if he isn't playing he wants to be in my lap or sleeping on the top of the sofa behind me. He will come lay beside me and paw me to rug his belly or scratch his ears. As ShamaMama knows, when I sit on the floor to play fetch with him, he will bring the toy back and sit in my lap to chew on it before dropping it for me to throw again.

Perry has his lapdog moments, and his play time, but he also has his 'I want to lie here on the floor (or in his bed) away from both of you as long as I can see you' moments as well. I'm actually glad for those moments (even though I'd love more cuddle time) because with him it means he's feeling more secure. He's been generally afraid of my husband since we got him in December, and that often translated to either wanting to be in my lap or plastered to my side... I only realized that he likes the floor/ alone time (but able to watch me) when my husband was away. Now, however, as he's more secure, he's actually spending more time NOT having to touch me even when my husband is home which is good. So, for Perry, cuddle time is in the morning before I go to work consistently, and then it's hit or miss in the evenings when I'm home or on the weekend, though there is usually a 5 minute period where he'l crawl on my chest when I'm lying on the couch and will cuddle.
