Cattle Dog

So who knew Havanese were cattle dogs? Henry and I went out to potty and five escaped cows from the farm down the road came trotting by the house. Henry immediately starting barking at them.

The cows stopped at my driveway and just stared at us. i got a little nervous - they're very big and were very close. But Henry kept barking. Then the lead cow abruptly turned around and with her little herd at her heels ran back down the road to the barn jumping the fence to get in. Yay Henry! My own little farm dog.

I'd bet the owner has a dog that herds them too.

Haha! When we first got Scarlett she tried to herd our chickens. She is no longer allowed in the chicken yard because she eats their poop. After that I looked it up and they WERE used as herding dogs in Cuba.
Sheri and krandall like this.

Our neighbors used to have chickens, that didn't have a secure pen, and they were ALWYAS gettingg out and into our yard. It always amazed me that Kodi, who has had NO herding training would so obviously not "chase" them, but round them up and herd them back into their pen. You could almost see him dust off his hands and say "THAT job is done!" as he trotted back to me! I wish I'd been able to get it on video, but it was pre-cell phone videos,(at least for me!) and I never had anything available at the right moment.
