Another Blowing Coat Question

We are so Lucky to have both the boys blowing coat at the same time. You can imagine the snow storm around here even with us brushing them 3 times a day and bathing them every 2 weeks. My question is we have recently noticed on our brown and white that on both hips it looks like he has a crew cut. (short but not shaved) His other hair is about 3 inches long. No sores or noticeable hot spots. I have done a lot of looking but have not seen anything about this being a normal part of blowing coat. Anyone have experience like this? Trying to figure out if we need a trip to the Vet.

Thanks

Kosmo is blowing his coat. The mats go right down to his skin. Both his hips are going to be like a crew cut if I ever get them out. Also, behind ears, on legs, etc. My boy, at eleven months is a mess, and it happens overnight while he sleeps and rolls in his crate. His crate mat is often wadded these days. Sorry to say, puppy cut looms ahead.

Understand. We have been in a puppy cut since last May. They still get mats.

Perry is in a puppy cut (mostly - I can't do his legs properly so they're longer than a puppy cut) and still mats. Seems like even when I comb him I either miss a spot OR the mats pop up overnight because I find a new ones the next day (or a few hours later). Worst spots seem to be below his ears and around his feet.
