Bernese Breeders

Koodos to this group of Bernese breeders for taking steps to better the breed. Many other breeds should be doing this sort of thing.

How very interesting! I love this idea of research on bettering their breed for better health and fitness. I hope it works for them, and if so, I sincerely hope that the ideas would be adopted into study with our beloved Havanese!

I do wish parent clubs of struggling breeds would take a page from the Dalmatian Club of America and the implementation of LUA Dals and work to find viable outcrosses instead of digging in their heels for the sake of purity. I have a good number of friends involved in Doberman Pinschers, a breed in desperate need of an outcross. The DPCA is adamant against it, but the new regime or younger fanciers that will one day takeover seem to be open to it.

Boy am I glad ours is a healthy breed (fun fact: We boast either the 5th or 6th largest number of CHIC dogs throughout all breeds). I do believe we have a health and longevity survey currently being given...I heard mention of it at the national but did not investigate further.
