Question Barking in his crate at night

Racquet ( 5 mths old)will go into his crate at night to sleep near our bed but when I leave the room he will bark until I return. What is your advice. ? I keep his crate covered. Once I am in bed he will go right to sleep. He has been with us for 10 weeks now.
I tried putting an heartbeat pillow behind his crate and he sleeps with a toy from his litter-mates.
I have tried shush, etc.
Thanks for your thoughts.

Hmm..

I wish I knew the answer to this one. I think they just need to know *where* we are at all times. I know when I get out of bed, Gucci will wake up and follow me, even if I go to the bathroom. Maybe you could try leaving a chewy treat to keep him busy?

I've tried to SNEAK out of my room before tiptoe and she STILL pops right up! LOL

OR maybe he just needs more time to figure out that you always DO come right back?

Never, never, never go to a dog that is barking or crying in the crate. It encourages then to keep it the activity until they get what they want. Unless you know they need to go potty.

Could you wait until you are ready to go to be to put him in his crate?

I take my Beamer out for potty when my wife and I are ready for bed. Once we come back in, he goes into his crate by himself and we are done for the night. He has been sleeping through the night since we got him at 13weeks old and has never made a fuss about his crate. He does not even like to get out of it in the morning when we wake for work. We have to DRAG him out to get him to go potty.. to funny..

The barking only happens when you leave the room?

I'm sure he's just worried about you and wants to follow you. That is in their nature...but I think with time, he'll stop.

Sometimes Radar will bark in the crate because he wants to sleep with us at night. We did it once for him and haven't done it since. He hasn't barked in his crate since that time. Now he just lays there until he gets sleepy and then it's lights out.

Good Luck.

I am with Sandy, never go to the dog while barking or fussing. I feed my dogs in their kennels and when I couldn't watch them when they were little. Eventually he will get used to it.

Houston only goes to bed when I am ready to physically be in bed next to him in his kennel. Are you putting him in before you go? Or is it when you get up in the middle of the night?

All I can say is don't respond. He will get over it.......Once you give in he won't stop. Good luck.
