Hi Ellen,

Where are you located? What is the age range of an older puppy that you are considering?

I don't know of anyone in the tri-state area who has older puppies. I hope some of our member will see this and chime in, if they know of anyone. Meanwhile, here are the links to a couple of local clubs. You can contact them for recommendations.

Good luck.

I helped my sister find an older puppy. She had to fly to get her, but she is so happy with Sadie. I PM'ed all the breeders on this forum and ask if they had or knew any breeders with an older pup.

I am also in NJ and was just looking for an older dog too- which was much harder than finding an older puppy. Check the HCA website and the Del Valley Hav club has breeders listed from Delaware (Salem Farms has some 6 month old puppies they need to get rid of) and all the way up to upstate NY. Check with Ruthellen at Viva HAvanese- I met her a few weeks ago (nice drive to Binghamton) and I think she has some puppies left.
I ultimately ended up taking in a rescue over the weekend (he is actually GREAT with kids and is totally housetrained- he has some minor health issues from neglect that are being treated now). I also have another Havanese that is older and it hasn't been smooth, but it's working out OK so far.
I spoke with a LOT of breeders and can tell you who is good and who isn't from all my research. Oh, before I forget, also get in touch with June at jubolee in NH. She is a 4 hour drive or so and she is just lovely. If she can't help you, she will find someone that can.

Our Jack is from one of the Jubo-Lee lines. His sire is co-owned by June & my breeder. His dam is from Jubo-Lee, too. I loved that it was very simple to check the backgrounds of both parents - all of the testing had been done and registered with OFFA.org.

I do know that on her website, there was a place to inquire about older dogs.

Good luck!
