What is the size of your Hav babies?

My girl seems a little small for being a year old. I've never owned this breed before (and will now only own Havanese) so I don't know what the "norm" is.

Bella has been spayed. She weighs 7 1/2 lbs. From head to floor is about 6 to 8 inches. She wears a small in clothes.

Is this pretty standard?

I wouldn't worry about Bella's size and weight unless she was having health issues, and then I'd definitely worry. She's not that small, honestly. Havanese will keep growing until they reach maturity and it's different in different lines. Have you contacted her breeder to ask your question and voice your concerns? My little black and white girl Blossom was 7 lbs when she was one and still a puppy but made it to standard at 8 1/2 inches at the withers. When she got spayed she put on some weight and now we're working on getting her down to an optimum weight.

She was not a show dog but everyone picks her out when go to the park, or to the nursing home so she can shmooze with the people. The pick her over the other two finished Champions I own, because she has a very outgoing personality and has never met a stranger. She gives kisses and is a very sweet snuggly girl.

My Bella is 8 1/2 inches tall and weighs 7 lbs. My boys are 10 inches tall and 16 lbs and the other is 12 inches tall and 15lbs. I like the size of my boys, because I don't have to worry as much about hawks and them getting stepped on etc. I'm sure your girl is fine, but you might want to do a bile acid test on her to check her liver. Bella had a liver shunt. It was not discovered until she was 1 1/2 years old. She had no symptoms except that she was small. Her blood tests all came back fine, but the bile acid test showed a liver problem. The only other symptom she had was increased thirst and that didn't start until she was 1 1/2 years old.

I agree with the others, if you are concerned..have the vet run some tests on her liver and if it comes back healthy and normal, youll have some peace of mind...as that is probably the biggest concern for smaller Havs.

I think 7 lbs is on the small end. I want to say Gucci was around 8-8.5 at year one, I had her spayed closer to her 2nd birthday and she is now around 10-11 lbs, so did put on 2-ish after that, she was the runt of her litter and I believe her littermates are all a few lbs heavier than her, but I did have a recent full work up on her and everything has come out fine, great really.

Pixie is 2 yrs old. She weighs about 14lbs. Daisy is maybe 8 and is just a year old. They both eat the same amount during the day. They have the same daddy but different moms. I recently saw my breeder and she was so suprised on how small Daisy is.

I also think the Hav's are getting smaller. When I got my guys, it seemed like the average weight for boys was 15 lbs and girls 10-12. I was at a playdate and I could believe the number of tiny Hav's. They were so small they reminded me of Yorkies. It's just not what I am used to.

Baby Maddie is 5.4lbs at 4mo

I was told by my breeder that Maddies mom has smaller pups full grown under 8lb . My vet thinks she will be about 8lbs. You can look up the standerd size for a show dog somewhere in this forum.
