Final Alfie update

Hi Everyone,
I took Alfie to his new HRI foster home down in central NJ (not far from my parents). It wasn't easy for me to leave him, but I tried to leave when he was in the backyard playing with his new foster brother. I got in the car and cried my eyes out. After that, I stopped at my mom's for a hug and some homemade chicken soup (even that didn't make me feel better). I miss the little guy already.
When I cam home from work yesterday, he had scratched some of the skin off of his nose trying to get out of the crate- and that was just another small disaster I can add to the reasons why I can't keep him and can't keep him safe. It still makes me feel awful that he kept hurting himself in my care and I am crying again writing this.
I think the foster home he went to is wonderful- the mother was very nice and he has a foster brother to play with (and a sister too, but she is a bit more shy). They have a nice backyard and live by the beach. I will reach out to HRI to check on him (and maybe even go visit him) when I come back from vacation.
I am relieved to know he is safe now but I still wish this had worked out with him. I know he is in a home that can help him now and give him what he needs so that is a HUGE comfort to me.
Thank you to everyone here for the support you have given me over the last few weeks- I couldn't have made it this far without you.

I know how hard this had to be for you. Knowing he's in a loving and nurturing environment has to make it easier in some way though. Sending you cyber hugs and feeling your pain.

My heart breaks for you but it sounds like Alfie has found a foster home where he will be happy and well looked after. Consider that a huge success because, ultimately, that's what you've always wanted for him and that's what you've made happen.

I have tears too. I know this was very hard...yet so selfless. You are wonderful for trying. What if no one tried? You have ensured he will be placed in a good home and he will have proper training in the skills he needs. Because he was not a good fit for your home makes your effort no less wonderful. You have found him a place and helped set him up for success. Hugs
