HELP...winter potty training!

Christmas puppy, didnt think ahead about challenges of potty training a tiny puppy in the winter months. She has been ok using the potty pads, but at 15 weeks, I really need her going more often outside. She just shivers and wants to go back in before taking the time to do her business. Any suggestions would be appreciated. THANKS in advance!

Hi! I have no advice but want to follow this thread because I, too have a winter puppy. He uses Ugodog pee pad tray but we are going to start taking him outside today. We have a 2 year old that also was a winter puppy. She used the Ugodog (and still does when necessary) but has no problem peeing outside but will only poop on the Ugodog (now kept outside on our balcony). It took about a year and a half before she started asking to go out.

Molly was a winter puppy. I bundled her up to go outside because she too would shiver. I used a sweater, parka, and both together, depending on how cold it was outside. I would definitely keep the indoor option going as well. I did not start out with an indoor option and I regret it. I had to improvise something to use because there are times that the weather is just too harsh for her to handle. An indoor option that your dog can use themselves when needed is definitely the way to go in bad weather.

I wouldn't worry about teaching outdoor potting at this time of year, quite frankly. She will learn very naturally as the weather gets nicer and she is more comfortable outdoor. I had a "winter puppy" too... Panda came home mid-Jan. I made sure that I worked hard on her "indoor potty training" and she became very reliable with her litter box. When the weather got nicer, she would "just go" when we were outdoors together, and we would, of course, praise her lavishly. By June she was going outside more than in her potty, and before the end of the summer, she was rarely using the litter box except in bad weather... Just like my older dogs.
