I already spoke with 2 breeders, and filled out the application for the Havanese rescue..

I must ask, if you're not yet ready, why are you searching for a breeder that currently has pups?

With a two year-old, I'd advise that you wait a couple of years, until your daughter is a bit older and understands that dogs are animals, not toys. With a small breed, a young child who doesn't know better can do the dog a lot of harm by accident. It would probably be best for your daughter AND the puppy to wait, that way she can have more responsibility in raising the puppy

I agree! Your message is a bit confusing. For a couple of reasons. These dogs are a small breed. Taking on a puppy is exactly like having another baby (not a toddler) in your home. Having a toddler and a puppy at the same time is going to be a real challenge for you, and these dogs really do deserve to be in a home where any children are grown up enough to not be a danger to them -- especially when they are just a puppy.

That being said, if you are committed to owning a Havanese I want to let you know that there are litters being born all of the time. Talk to us about your selection process - the breeder you are looking at, and which puppy. There is a lot of information out there for you to read and review. Generally I've found this group to be pretty open and helpful.

HTH.

Cheers!

If you have made your decision to wait, better not to look at puppies pictures... They are so cute that it will be difficult to wait. Don't worry, there will always be great breeders that will have litters when it is your time. Keep learning and preparing yourself for that moment, as you are doing now. Good luck.

I contacted the breeders only for more information, to fill their questionnaires, talk with them, and they may have a lead for me on an adult 1-5 yr old Havanese that would be fine for our family now or within the next two yrs... When they have their litters, they can contact me, for one, it may not be till summer for all I know..At this exact moment I just dont have the time to take a dog out every single hr, and the other requirements that a timy puppy requires...
In a yr or 2 from now we can handle it..My daughter would be perfectly fine with a puppy..She is never ever left out of my site not even now...And a yr or 2 makes a huge difference in the toddler world, even the breeder agreed..A 2 yr old is much different then a 4 yr old...As my message states I asked you to contact me for a young Havanese, not a puppy...The breeders are aware I dont want a puppy right now...But I'm doing tons of research, and if and when we are ready I want to be prepared 100%...I am kind of a perfectionist..Im just throwing it out there that if you see or hear of an older havanese that someone is getting rid of or need adoption, please contact me

I think it's great you're doing so much research. I think it took me a year of researched before I was ready.
I call my 3 havanese privileged I believe most of the havs here a very very spoiled. I just smile when I see my guys lying all over my bed and couches. They think they own the place! They have no idea how good they have it!
